Members and employees of the Bundestag are in focus of the Russian Secret Service

Members of parliament and employees of the Bundestag are eyed by the Russian Secret Service

According to a news report, Russian secret services intensified recruitment of informants in the Bundestag. As Welt am Sonntag reports, the German Domestic Intelligence Service Verfassungsschutz has informations after which Russian agents do eye not only the representatives, but above all, younger employees of the parties or affiliated endowments.

New agents recruited
The purpose of this is to win insider's informations about current debates. If possible, the agents are also supposed to recruit other persons with promising professional perspectives for secret operations.

Great interest in energy policy
The government in Moscow under former secret service officer Vladimir Putin is interested, above all, in internal informations about German politics. Also economic strategies as for example in the energy sector would be transmitted to Moscow, the report is cited.
Russians as actively as nobody else
Germany is 18 years after the fall of the iron curtain still the most important reconnaissance target in Europe, according to the report with reference to knowledge of the Verfassungsschutz. Furthermore there are no other foreign secret services which are so active in Germany like the Russian agencies.

There is a really strong anti-Rusia/anti-Putin campaign brewing in Germany since the whole Schroeder affair came to light. I am sure everybody is spying on everybody, some are just better at it than others.

China does it, the US does it (Echelon), Britain does it, industrial, military spionage - Russia is no exception here, that's all there is to it

Yep, mostly just another media hype; just like saying the United States are knowingly damaging the environmental systems of the planet.

The statement itself is true, and communicated like that makes the USA the evil guy - just by omitting, that pretty much all the other industrialised nations do the very same.
