Hopefully this won't become a carbon copy of Somalia.

How much oil does Liberia have for us to get involved with? ;)

Quite a lot, I think ;) If I remember correctly, Liberia has several "offshore" oil fields which rival those in the North Sea. (I might be wrong, but I think this is true)
There was a program on South African TV a few months back about an African country with offshore oilfields - I THINK it was Liberia, can't remember.

OK, it seems that either I got the country wrong, or the website below has outdated information.

And before anyone gets too hysterical, I'm just answering the question, not suggesting oil as a reason for US intervention.

Funny how the same people who opposed our military going in to take out one murderous ruler are now calling for our military to go in and take out another murderous ruler. How quickly things change.
The Marines in question are the FAST Marines.

We do owe something to Liberia...after all, we started the country for free slaves, and that's the way it should be, free and happy for all to frolic around.

... in 1822.
The descendants of slaves make up only 5% of the country's population.
You're right, though, the first freed slaves to settle there were sent ashore under US military protection.... alas, that was before the Civil War.

You're not wrong.... but it's not oil you were looking for. Liberia once had a sizeable rubber industry, and Firestone invested heavily there.

The Brits managed to put the sierra leone rebels to flight with very little Force
A fair Few african nations will send troops as well.
This is probably a good chance for the US to look good.
