MONTREAL (AFP) - Police upgraded security on Montreal's underground rail system after receiving a letter threatening an attack, a report said.

Police confirmed on a recorded message that they had organized "preventative patrols" of the metro system, "in the light of events in recent months on transport systems across the world."

But the message added that there was currently nothing to lead police to believe that an attack was imminent and did not confirm reports of a threatening letter.

La Presse daily reported that a letter was left at a police station in the city with vague and unspecific warnings of an attack.

The paper said a similar letter was received in Canada's largest city, Toronto a few weeks ago, prompting similar security upgrades.

While Canada refused to take part in the US-led war in Iraq (news - web sites), it has been mentioned as a possible target for terrorists, given its leading military fole in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan (news - web sites).

****! I'm going to have to try to find out more about this...
I hadn't noticed the increased patrolling in the last few days, but now that I think about it, the last month or two I've been seeing alot of police in the metros, as well as noticing that more of the STCUM ( Transit compnay who runs the metro ) security officers were wearing vests.

Dont worry yourself about it man.
I think about the subways here in NY being attacked. But i dont let it change the way i do things.
Go along your usual routine until something happens.
DOnt let it stop you from living your life.

As a matter of fact, it will only make me get a bit more fresh air. Not taking the metro just means a 20 minute walk instead of a 5 minute metro ride, so really it's better for me anyway. I just have to leave the house earlier. I wouldn't really worry for me, but when it comes to my daughter, I'm overprotective enough when she's playing in the park, lol..so when it comes to potential terror stuff, yeah, I get a bit paranoid!

The only thing that really makes e want to avoid it, is that the stretch of metro I ride everyday is the absolute busiest part of the system. Probably more likely therefore to be a target.

Would I quit my job, or move for hte sake of a terror threat? No, I hope not. Would I get 20 minutes of exercise to avoid it? Yeah, hell, why not really...
