Hi everybody. Hi Remov ;) Pozdro. I'm just another Pole here.
For these who are interested in polish desert camo I have some photos below and a little more information about this camo to that what was given by Remov.
Polish desert camo was made more than one year ago for Polish soldiers going to Afghanistan, by replacing colours of the standard Polish camo "pantera" (panther) with desert colours. I think this desert camo looks quite pretty cool. The newest version of this uniform includes a hat-veil to protect a nape from the san.
Enjoy

Polish desert uniform on dummy
http://www.wp.mil.pl/auths/394/files/3efd514a642d1_mundur_irak3_2.jpg
A desert version of two rucksacks (conected) made for polish army by Alpinus - polish producer of clothes and equipment for mountain trekking and outdoor travelling. This kind of new rucksacks isn't a standard in polish army yet, however a part of ellite troops (mountain infantry, airborne and air-assault, 1 PSK (1 Pułk Specjalny Komandosów - 1 Special Regiment of Commandos) have it. I think GROM certainly has it also, but on their photos I've seen different rucksacks (Karrimor ?).

Of course, instead "san" should be "sun" or "sand" or... ;)

So there are Ukrainian soldiers in Iraq to help re-build Iraq?Or are they combat troops.
He219
07-07-2003, 05:01 PM
These are trained combat troops employed in the Polish-led 'stabilization force'. That means they will be 'keeping the peace' and will not be involved in the re-building part. Contractors and engineers do that. US Navy Amphibious and Mobile Construction Battalions (CB's) are currently building irrigation canals, temporary bridges and causeways to repair damaged infrastructure, for example. I'm sure the Army Engineers are doing their part. Large scare reconstruction is contracted out to Civil Engineers.

Not exactly - they partly will do this kind of job. Among both Polish and Ukrainian troops are engineering units (even special Polish "road engineers" unit) which tasks are: rebuilding some roads, small structures and bridges etc. But naturally not they will not rebuild structures in that way and at the same scale that normal civilian companies do.

are the WIST 94 and 5,56mm kbs wz.96 Beryl made in poland? Naturally, Poland produces broad range of own armament including: pistols (eg. MAG-95 (http://www.lucznik.com.pl/specjalna/mag95e.html), 98 or WIST 94 or Wanad), submachine guns (PM84, PM98 (http://www.lucznik.com.pl/specjalna/pm98e.html)), assault rifles (kbs wz. 96 Beryl), carbines (kbk wz. 96 MiniBeryl), machineguns (UKM2000), grenade launchers (40mm Pallad and Pallad-D wz.74 and 40mm AGL GA) or heavy sniper/AMR rifles (WKW) and hardware.
produced by what company? The WIST 94 (and other WIST models - WIST 94L, WIST-Compact) is produced by Prexer Ltd. (Lodz) (http://www.prexer.com.pl/apistolety.html). The Beryl and Mini Beryl are produced by Fabryka Broni "Lucznik" (http://www.fabrykabroni.pl/Wyroby.htm) (formerly Zaklady Metalowe Lucznik S.A. (http://www.lucznik.com.pl/specjalna/specjalnae.html)) in Radom. Machineguns, HMGs, grenade launchers - underbarrel (Pallad) and automatic (GA) are produced in Mechanical Works "Tarnów" S.A. (http://www.zmt.tarnow.pl/htmen/wojskowy.htm) in, well, Tarnów.
what company produces the polish camo BDU's?Hmm... which one? Goretex BDUs - Summit S.A. (wz. 127B/MON (http://www.serwis-militarny.net/summit/)), normal Pantera BDUs (wz.93) or new (desert) Snajper BDUs (P.P.H. Kama from Ostrów Mazowiecki)? Or maybe - tactical vests (Zaklady Konfekcji Technicznej LUBAWA S.A. from Lubawa) or helmets (http://www.resal.pl/rsl12e.htm) (Resal from Warsaw).
do Moratex make these BDU's? Nope. Moratex (http://mazurek.man.lodz.pl/users/itww2/eng/intro.html) is well known producer of bullet-proof vests (http://mazurek.man.lodz.pl/users/itww2/eng/ob.html) and helmets (http://mazurek.man.lodz.pl/users/itww2/eng/ob10.html).

I must admit, I made one mistake, in Polish BDU names (Thanks Tomek for correction!): the woodland pattern is called "Pantera", but the desert pattern isn't called "Snajper" as I wrote, but "Pustynna pantera" (which means the Desert Pantera), "Snajper" is a trademark name of the fabric (equivalent of Polish Rip-stop).

These commandos usually uses Beryls unlike Grom operators which have M4. There are about 50 soldiers from this regiment in Iraq, part of Grom is also there.

Now I get it. This talking about the beauty of Polish girls really dazzled me, because as I was wandering through the streets of Warsaw they did not seem special to me. Same was the obvious Tony6 (Polish?) despising of German girls. But it seems to be all a matter of taste I realize now. Girls like her (pic above) didn't really peek my interest, and German girls of today a probably way to slim for the Polish taste...
That explains a lot. And settles the matter.

As for the boots-foreign missions soldiers have very good boots (Kupczak Products). As for the Iraq mission-they use Protector boots. They will have new version in january. Also they will get 100 pairs of Armex new desert boots for testing.

official version is that it was accidental discharge during weapon cleaning, unofficial and probably true version is that they played with guns with another soldier and the other one had loaded "Beryl" and saftty swithed to burst mode... he fired burst of 3 rounds 2 of them hit the victim in head both mortally... that is the efect of playing with guns... other soldier will be prosecuted for unwilignes manslaughter.

Ok thanks. Playing with loaded guns, well what can you say... Here in Sweden there was a incident a couple of years ago when a soldier with a magazine inserted in his gun cocked it, put the gun to his squadleaders back and pulled of the trigger, just for fun, he claimed that he "forgot" that he had a magazine inserted. Oh... anyway he was sentenced for murder.
I love the polish beret-style with the insignia visible. There is not many countries that use the same system, I know that they use it in the Czech republic as well (any more?). But does two stars simple mean that he is a two star general? Or does it mean that he is Lieutenant General? He looks like someone you donīt want to mess with anyway.

Iīm sorry if this question has been up earlier. But do the poles use PKMīs (In Iraq) because they consider them as more reliable than other MGīs in 7.62 NATO? They seem to be quite well-equipped with TRG-21īs and all that so I donīt think that itīs just because of saving a couple of zlotnys :)

marshal of poland curently noone is marshal and in polish history there were 6 or 7 marshals only 3 in independent poland ( 1st one was french general (then marshal) Fosh :-) ) it was awarded for his help in polish-soviet war 1918-20 then 4 were "awarded" by comunist. but almost noone remember them :-)

You're damn right!:)
He is very dynamic officer, active parachute instructor (about 3000 para-jumps). Two of his sons are also airborne officers.
As for those two stars-yes, it means that he is two stars general.

Well PKM is prety reliable weapon.
Right now they start production of UKM-2000. It's the 7,62*51 NATO ammunition version of PKM (remodeled to support NATO feeding belts)

Yes-he was a Nordic-Polish Brigade commander in Bosnia.
For the last two (or three? I don't know) he was a vice commander of NATO corp in Turkey.
He used to be responsible for big multinational exercises in NATO headquarter also. As for his Syria and Sahara mission-I don't know but probably You are right-he is a man of challenge:)
You can say that he's pretty experienced officer.

I know the Polish dessert cammo is getting updated - more brown less white. Is it a simular thing with Polish cammo?

^ On this photo (http://www.wp.mil.pl/photoGallery/2004_01_05glowna/2004_01_07/01gen_bien_2.jpg) placed above by Tony6 you can see some interesting details of gen. Bieniek's uniform:
1) the 6th Airborne-Assault Brigade badge - general served in this brigade for most of his career and was its commander.
It seems he is very glad that he'll be in Iraq with paratroopers from his former (and beloved?) unit, because he choose this badge and not from other unit which he was serving with for the last time (see below pt.2)
He even has the 6th Airborne Bde badge instead of small Polish flag on his gore-tex jacket - photo inserted before by Podkus ( http://www.irak.pap.pl/cgi-bin/obrazek.pl?ID=404&typ=Zdjecie)
2) the 25th Air Cavalry Brigade small metal badge on his left pocket - after leaving the 6th Airborne general had become the commander of this realtive new unit and later he worked in NATO HQ.
3) British airborne wings
4) Polish airborne wings (off course ;) ) - silver diving eagle with a gold garland
Is he wearing a new type of Polish updated cammo. If you notice his and compare it to the other soldiers in the backround you will see it greener. Is that new or is it just it looks different in what I am assuming light from the camera flash. No, this is not a new camo version, it only looks different from these in the background but general has the same gore-tex jacket like these others soldiers.

In case anyone is wondering, the badge on the right pocket is a Turkish corps badge. I don't know where that particular badge can be seen on the 'net, but here is the badge of Turkish Land Forces HQ (which has the rather unfortunate acronym KKK - Kara Kuvvetleri Komutanlığı):
http://www.kkk.tsk.mil.tr/00img/Kenar144/mSolUst.gif
Pretty much all Turkish unit badges are of this shape. A corps badge should have three stars as the top, which Gen. Bieniek's appears to have.

Thisīs really a surprise! May be we, spanish, arenīt so simpathetic :(
USA donīt pay a cent of Spanish Irakīs bill, in fact, since Spain is involved in foreing deployments, we always paid our all expenses, and I think we arenīt the only ones doing that, in fact if we havenīt more soldiers in Irak is because we have many soldiers in former Yugoslavia, and all together thatīs a big bill for us. Iīd like to listen any other opinions of forum members with national troops deployed in Irak about this subject. My personal opinion is that I prefere paying "my" bill, in fact, I didnīt like owing anithing to USA or any other country, in special about military things, so we are free of critize things we donīt like.

well AFAIK US pay for transport and logistics (fuel fod etc) all equipment except some cars and all wages are paid by poland... and we also have peacekeepers in former yugoslawia (bosnia, kosovo) also golan heights, lebaon, syria, afghanistan but also few in congo ivory coast east sahara, georgia, ethiopy, eritrea, moldowa well actualy almost 5% of our army is on all kinds of peacekeeping and next 5 is preparing so around 1/10 of army is involved in peacekeeping... currently 4019 soldiers are abroad half of this in iraq. (SF of course are not counte since nobody knows what are they doing)
And in poland today is.. XII WOŚP (Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity) and also soldiers in iraq collect money to buy medical equipment that will save life of kids in hospitals... note red hearts on uniforms :-)

ok Loco. this is the deal if US didn't pay for most coalition deployments then there would be no colation except for US, GB, Denmark, Holland, and Spainiards. Spain is not rich but not poor. Poland and the rest are poor - we need the US to give us a lift to the region and to pay otherwise we would not be able to support troops in Iraq becasuse unlike you guys we've only had 14 years of market economy if you recall we were under communism for 50 years. So US pays and we send our troops and everyone is happy. spain pays cause it can. Sure its good to pay but yourslef but if you can't then you just can't.

(polish EOD soldiers found rolands with date 2003 on them and misinterpreated it as a date of production when in fact that was service date).

Seems all the former Warsaw Pact countries, like Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary and Romania have gone to boonie/bush/jungle hats. (Never saw these in use until this past year.) I didn't think they would pick up such a US type headgear. It is good though! (if it works, use it!)

Well polish "misionaires" as we call soldiers who are on mision outside country are using boonie hats for quite a time but only outside poland in country there is no need to do this...

You guys living in Poland have it alot easier, you can find lots of pics of polish troops in Iraq by going on Polish sites. I have to look through englihs sites to find pics - not an easy task.
I wanna see the new unit in Iraq with the new equipment - Skorpion jeep, new cammo, new boots etc. Anyone got any pics of the new unit?

Really!!! I didn't know that. I did hear that Bumar lost the 500 million dollar contract to supply the new Iraqi army with weapons. Is this over for Bumar or does it still have a chance to get other contracts.

This was only first contract for Iraq Army equipment-there will be others.
It turned out that there are 2 Polish companies in the consortium that had won that contract. I've just read that Polish firm will provide Iraq Army with Honkers, helmets, bullet-proof vests and Kalashnikovs.

Lets explain for our ofriends from other nations that Kutshera was called "butcher of Warsaw" was responsible for execution of warsaw citizens (over 4000)and was assasinated in front of Gestapo HQ in warsaw by 12 polish soldiers from Home Army even germans admited that it was very well planed operation...
As a retaliation germans executed 100 polish ppl but after that executions stoped since his succesors knew that they will be next if they follow him...
BTW on this site there is very interestion information about polish oficer who disguised in german general!!! uniform traveled thru europe and even menaged to get plans of "Atlantic Wall" in Normandy

In photo No.1 is soldier from 1 Special Commando Regiment. What tactic vest he is wearing? Is that some Moratex product? GROM soldier's using Moratex vest's, but this vest is not the same, i think.BTW GROM soldier's using in IRAQ green(or olive)vest'. I think TAC-V10 SF VEST(Poles could see this vest's on polish Playboy edition, interview with col.Polko).If someone could tell me what the vest is that i will be very happy :D

When ukrainian defense minister Marchuk visited our zone, polish W3W Sokol was atacked from ground(small arms). So, polish soldier started shooting to them, he use his PKM 7,62 mm. I heard that in polish Tv(i dont remember TVP1 or TVN). I am sure of that what i heard in TV, but im not sure is that true. I guess it was possible. Pozdro stary.

An Estonian soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in Baghdad, the first from his country to die in Iraq, a military spokesman said on February 29, 2004. The 21-year-old soldier was part of a 12-man foot patrol when the bomb exploded, the spokesman said, adding that earlier U.S. military reports he was shot trying to defuse the device proved false. lately us Poles have fallen behind on updating the pics of Polish troops in Iraq. I went online the other day to find some new pics with new gear and stuff but I couldn't find any pictures because im searching english search engine and typing in english. You guys in Poland gotta keep updating the post with new pics. There are alot of great pictures on this site and we gotta keep this post alive with new pics. Remov started with post with pics and others slowly added newer ones and we kept it goen.
if you guys know anyone that went to Iraq and has pictures ask them if you can post them up on this site.

Why not all polish soldier wearing new desert camuflage I guess its better than old,so why gen.Bieniek and others dont wearing it?Because this is a real world, not another Harry Potter movie and the BDUs cannot be replaced in a single moment using a magic wand.
The new uniforms will replaced the older ones, but it is economically senceless to throw up all old BDUs and take all brand new. The older are no longer in production and when they used up, the new appears. Especially that older Pustynna Pantera uniforms aren't so bad to change them immediately.
Try to think a little before you ask another such question, ok?

I was watching on TVP on web that the new uniforms are made of lighter material, or are thinner and have more ventalation then the older dessert uniforms. Solider say the new uniforms are better, so much so that they even said that a few Yanks were jelous.

OK Remov i will think more before i ask question ;) BTW new uniforms are better because they are less visible at night(i hope you know what i mean,my english is s**t).BTW if that is economicaly senceless why our oficers from General Staff and Zemke wearing new uniforms, they shouldnt :( Soldiers from first line should.BTW I never read and watch Heniek Portier :( Regards :)

**** don't watch only Wiadomości they are **** worth...you must check every news from them in independent source, Wiadomosci arent reliable because of "Grupa trzymająca władzę" :) ... Do you have tvn24 in your cable or satelite..it's pay chanel but it hase news in polish over and over again....
