Here's a 3mb Power Point Slideshow of the US Army's restructuring Plans through 2007. Take a look and tell me what you all think.

I'll reserve my comments until later in the thread.

I'm surprised I get no comments from this in this forum. There are so many here who say they are going to be in the Army soon or who are serving now. This is a MAJOR Restructuring.

It will also show you the proposals of which units will survive and where they'll be stationed in the coming years.

This also shows how they will implement a Brigade based system and how that command and control will work.

I think they are insane. What we need are the many big divisions we used to have before we were gutted by the Clinton Administration.

I saw the slide on the downsizing and changes they are going to make to a armored division and they are wanting to remove the DivCav support unit. That is ludacris, we are the eyes and ears for a division and even with all this UAV crap in the air it still cant tell you how many bad guys there are, how to get across this bridge, etc. Damn commies.

I think one of the reasons why people have not disucssed this in detail here is that it already has been in a different thread.

I am not too sure I agree with the force restructuriing, but I will agree that this is no longer the Cold War. Europe is NOT going to be facing hordes of Russian tanks and there is a need for a smaller self contained fighting unit. Easy to deploy with ALL its assets and a cohesive multi-threat fighting force.

It makes complete sense.

The Divisional size force is to cumbersome and too costly.

Thanks Catdat, big change to the system for sure. I wouldn't do away with the division just yet. Future threats still warrant this structure
(PRC PLA or Indian Army)
Reactivate brigade-level units, like the 193rd, 194th and 199th, for instance. (I read that the 196th Inf Bde was reactivated in 1998 and is in Hawaii. But is only a support unit?) Or bring back the Regimental Combat Team?
I guess, I am old fashion? Maybe I am not thinking outside the box?
