Excellent work, Tony - a very difficult field to summarise, but you've done it well and impartially.

I only recently discovered that the British Army actually had (or was made to have) our version of the 5.56 bullet altered with the result that it is less effective than the US M855 or even the older variants. The jacket is strengthened such that it cannot break at the cannelure and fragment, causing politically-unacceptable (in Northern Ireland at least) wounds.
