Interesting pictures of Stg 44 assault rifles in Iraq and in use with Yugoslavian paratroopers have been posted in this forum ( http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15233&sid=1b26424917c6b6101eaeef3a67d01697 and http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9379&highlight=mp44 )
As far as I know MP 40 and Stg 44 have seen use in following countries/conflicts:
- Angola (Yugoslavian Stg 44 were sold to Angola in 1983)
- Somalia (?) (GIs were said to have found some Stg 44 there)
- Algeria (several Stg 44 and MP 40 saw action in this war on both sides in the war 1954 - 1963)
- Vietnam war during French-Vietnamese fightings
- Yugoslavian conflicts (KLA fighters had few MP 40 in their armory; Slovenian prison guards were said to use MP 40s uns Stg 44s untill the early 90s
- Libanese civil war (some Stg 44 were used by PLO in this conflict during the 70s; the guns were said to be be delivered by the Czech government)
- Syria (there were rumors the French delivered small quantities in the 50s, PLOs Stgs may also have come from this source)
I´m not sure if the Czech military used MP 40 and Stg 44 during the late 40s or if they just sold captured guns abroad.
Are there any other pictures of MP 40 and Stg 44 in nongerman (including Eastgermany) use after WW2?
Thx in advance.

The norwegian army and home guard used MP40 for many years after the war, atleast the home guard didn't replace the MP40's with MP5 until early 90'ies.
I'll see if I can dig up some pics.

Yes it is. There is also an M-14, a Hakim, Mausers, and a carcano in the picture. There is even an AR-15 or AR-10 in there as well. Logistics has to be hell. ;)

Just to the left of the M-14 looks to be a Czech Vz-24 with the bayonet extended. What a waist of nice rifles.

Yeah indeed beretta, BTW last year some dude found beretta M38 in river in warsaw (during summer water in river was very low and exposed many funny toys...) That beretta was in mud since WW2 but still all wooden elements were intact (mud) and all mechanical elements were working, unfortunatelly barell was rusted inside and little outside and it was inposible to return it to working condition...
BTW where you see AR15?

I have an Mp-38A. Very nice weapon. I like the Mp-40 better though.
The AR-15 or Ar-10 is in the first picture. Look to the far right center of thr picture. You will see the rifle from the front sight post up. The rest you can not see so well to identify it.

7,92 Kurz would be very hard to find in East Africa ..
bluered12, why MP40? It doesn't seem as exotic as the MP43/StG44 ..

Es heist kurtz :)
$1.50 American per round with a 50% no fire rate.
A friend of a friend has one. He said it is cheaper to fire blanks than real munitions.

I have heard rumours about some people who makes 7.92 kurtz ammo out of .30-06. A real MacGyver project though, but it is supposed to work.

No, it can be done. I make the blanks for him.
Simply cut cases to length, lube well, run through resizer die and you are done. Once they are made, you can use them over again. Blanks are crimped with no projectile as the only difference.
I commonly make 8mm Mauser out of .270 Winchester or .30-06 brass for shooting.
There is a large industry in the U.S. for reloading ammunition and changing one caliber to another. I found it makes munitions quite non-expensive to shoot.

It's a large industry in about every country where the population is allowed to own firearms :)

Reloading ammunition here in Canada is quite popular. This is due to the realtively high cost of certain types of ammunition as well as getting better accuracy by rolling your own.

I think REMOV posted an earlier thread with MP 44 photos. I think it was in the history forum(?)
MP-40's are quite plentiful, due to the number made. Plus, the fact that they were used in the entire German Theater of WW 2.
But the MP-44 (actually STG 44) this is quite rare. I too saw the same images (on Yahoo!) of an Iraqi militia man with one. (Quite a surprise) Thanks for posting them!
As posted by REMOV, Saddam had a couple in his personal collection. (Of which the US Army now owns.) So this STG 44 may have come from one of Saddam's palaces?
As for export of these rare rifles, East Germany (DDR) used them for a couple years after WW 2. (I have seen the photos, sorry don't have any to post) As did Yugoslavia, which used them for atleast 40 more years after the war! Odd, I didn't know that some were exported to Angola in the early 80's!? Strange, due to the fact that Angola, already had thousands of AK-47 & AKM rifles. The STG 44 is a different caliber!
From my novice research, the only conclusion I can come to on STG 44's in Somalia and Ethopia is, that the USSR exported alot of WW2 era small arms in the 1970's. *As evidenced by soldiers, militia & guerrlia's totting PPsh-41 and PPs-43 submachine guns. Along with Mosin-Nagant rifles and carbines. Check out any photos from the 1970/1980's on Uganda, Mozambique, Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) Zambia, Tanzania and Sudan. In these shipments, is where I think STG 44's came from.
As for Algeria, it recieved small arms from the Warsaw Pact. (back in the 60's and 70's) This is where they got there 44's from.
I wonder if that Al-Sadr guy, would like to trade his STG 44 for and AKM? Hhhmmm.

I make it out of 7.62 brass. Takes 20 grains of IMR4198 and a 125 grain 8mm projectile. This is the original load and it shoots great out of my MP-43.
