Hey folks
Anybody here used the Oakley SI Assault glove (https://usstandardissue.com/gloves.aspx) in active service? I'm gonna start using mine in active service starting next week, and wanted to know how they stand up against heavy use and time. Any input from the good folks at MP.net?

Oh, and welcome to MP.net to me. :)

one week of heavy use in a Jeff Gonzales' class, the glove wore through in a few places.

Good gloves, but the hard cover knuckles are a bit tough to deal with with my fat hands and a 1911 trigger guard.

I like the Southwest Mototrsport gloves a lot.

Are you going to be assaulting things?

Hehe

I've always been fond of nomex pilot's gloves. Another popular brand are Mechanix Wear - durable but inexpensive, so no worries if they get torn up.

AHHHH, the quest for the perfect glove, I carry 3 different types in the field excluding my cold weather stuff...
1. Youngstown (Builders??) gloves, already missing the thumb, middle and for finger, I use them as my patrol glove, general alrounder, good quality and good price still comfortable when wet. They managed to last a whole year of infantry work before ripping but are still functional
2. Nomex Gloves for when its abit cooler or at night and to give the other gloves a chance to dry and good for when the bugs are bitting.
3. Black leather heavy weights, for digging, Veh maintainance, Wiring, Riot control i.e. the sort off stuff that would f*ck your normal gloves up.

I hope not, but unfortunately it wouldn't be the first time.

What ever you do get, Remember especially if your deploying overseas get at least 2 pairs. Odds are you'll loose one, Someone will "Need them more than you" or just general wear and tear.

Never used those but the Hatch CQB shorties worked really well for me. I would also suggest bringing more that one pair.

We dropped the Hatch line due to quality issues. There are other makes that are the same quality at half the price.

No experience with the Oakleys however I know quite a few guys who wore the Wiley X ones in Afghanistan with no issues at all. They all look pretty much brand new except for the stains.

I appreciate all your suggestions, however I didn't ask "What should I bring instead of Oakleys" Like I said, I already have the gloves, just wanted some input on them. :)

Just got some Jeff Gonzales 5.11 nomex gloves for Christmas. Looking forward to them in Afghanistan. Anybody tried them yet?

I loved my oakleys, perhaps I got lucky cause mine held up fine.

Ditto. They've been left salty, dirty, grazed and abrazed, and they've come out fine. My only complaint is the vents above the fingers let in a lot of dust that sticks to your sweaty skin. Only a small complaint.

i like my oakleys but the ventilation does cut both ways. cool and dirty. still good gloves imo. for the money tho, you can't go wrong with the mechanix. they are cheeaap and hold up great. they don't have the same knuckle " 1 2 3 eyes on me" attention getting feature but it is good to have a couple pairs of them at the very least for back ups of the oakleys. there's my 2 pennys.
