Hmmmmmmmm......................The same problem struck me about a year and a half ago. I couldn't for the life of me find a gun dealer who could bring in a fair dinkum English Accuracy International. So I set about ordering a custom remington 700 built on the A.I chassis system. In the end, I probably should have just saved up for an AMP DSR No.1 or a Unique Alpine TGP-1.
If I could lend my advice, I'd go as far to say that an Accuracy International is simply not worth the effort. A robust and thoroughly reliable outfit it is, though much better rifles exist within reach.
The Unique Alpine, the AMP DSR, Blaser, Swiss Arms, Steyr Mannlicher, Sako (their TRG series) H-S precision, Remington's tactical models.
In all Honesty, these are some of the better choices here in Australia, and I'd go as far to say that the Unique Alpine was a much better choice than an Accuracy International. I would have sold my A.I styled rifle, though it's been worn in too much and I've grown accustomed to it.

Trust me, You get your hands on an AMP DSR or an Unique Alpine and you'll never ever look back........
AI is good and all, but the stocks are very hit and miss in terms of individual ergonomics. With the Unique Alpine, it's stock is much more forgiving. In fact, It's a bloody comfortable stock once you've messed around with the multitude of adjustments it has.
Quick question though.........What are you going to do with it?

Make sure you know what discipline your going to compete in, and know the costs associated with the particular discipline. Also ensure that the rifle you intend to buy matches competition guidelines & restrictions.
Simple advice, but you'd be surprised how many people sit down at the competition bench and unpack their new rifles, only to have the range monster / discipline coordinator tell you that your rifle "doesn't match competition rules and guidelines"
With a Unique Alpine TGP-1 chambered in 6.5-284 for example, you would be able to compete in long range service rifle, 'F' Class, 500m. fly and 1000yd. Benchrest.

Howabout getting in touch with one of the gunshops over here and getting it expo'd out to your gunsmith in Oz ?
AI are superb, but I'd go with Billy - you can get yourself a bloody good outfit for less by doing an remy 700 ( or a Ruger ) with a new trigger, stock, good barrel and a nice bit of glass. Best thing is that you can do it in installments - easier on the pocket iof you spread it.
also, it means that stuff that breaks like firing pins etc are just a trip down to yer local shop, not waiting for snail mail from the old country.
@Billy - do you get Howas over ? they reckon they're a good off the shelf buy here.

Howa's are very popular here in the Big Oz. Simple, No Gimmicks and reliable performance at a reasonable price........Though some of their varmint outfits (if my memory serves me correctly) need to be bedded properly.

A tricky operation, fraught with expenses......

I agree, the Howas seem to be good. Do they not make the cheaper Weatherbys in the same factories as the Howas? Or is that my new year brain being fried.
A number of tips. Take a drive down to Belmont or the like and talk to the clubbies. Im yet to find one that wont give you good advice.
As far as gun shops go, try Stevensons, they have always been good to me, and maybe Queensland Gun Exchange or the like. I have found over the years just because they don't stock a brand doesn't mean they cant.
@ Billy, good advice as always.

@ kongman et al,,, Mate of mine in Melbourne imported a AI -.308 stage 1.5 trigger OD stock via a shop in North Carolina, U.S. for about $800 US.
Get your import paperwork squared away first at your local town/city postal.
I'll get the name and number and link to the seller here in the states in a jiffy.
