Did anybody see 60 minutes last night? They showed Afghani soldiers wearing Vietnam tiger stripes. I missed the story and only caught the tail end. I was wondering why they didn't use desert tiger?

As I've understood the "desert tigerstripe" is being tested by the US military at the moment so I doubt any sets would be available at this time. And especially to Afghan troops...

Besides, reproduction Tigerstripe is easy to acquire.

Are you sure it was the VN Tiger not the Russian Tiger. Most of the pics I have seen out of Stan. have been the Russian version.

Here is a pic.

I have seen AMERICAN tigerstripe in the hands of afghan soldiers; Both desert and classic vietnam pattern. Recently seen in the photos section on this site.

I also have seen iraqi defense corps with desert tiger stripe.

You can see iraqis with almost any camo (british jungle dpm and 6 color desert, 3 color desert etc..)

Actually, the tigerstripe pattern was originally developed in Vietnam so the whole concept of an "American Tigerstripe" (besides desert tigerstripe, of course) feels a bit weird to me...

But anyway, let's stop the fancy talk.

Yes, a desert tigerstripe pattern exists. Apparently it can be bought from stores just like this "Trident military". However, there was some talk about this pattern being tested a few days ago by some branch of the US military so that makes me wonder about it all...

This could of course be a "commercial" copy of that pattern, just like there's a commercial MARPAT pattern.

It would also be interesting if you could find the photos you are referring to since I'd like to make a (Afghans wearing desert tigerstripe and Iraqis as well) comparison...

A desert tigerstripe pattern HAS been floating around since GW1 (at least).

TSP now holds the copyright/patent etc etc on the "original" tiger stripe pattern... which is very close to the gold dominant tigerstripe pattern variation. anyhow, they also offer the DTS version of which cordura and cotton ripstop material are available. Word is though, the uniforms made of this material wasnt up to snuff and tore easily.

We saw guys wearing old vintage Tiger strip camo in Afgh. We gave it to them! When we went over we took scads of old uniforms and boots to outfit the CTPT guys with, some of it was Tiger stripe, and the good old stuff too. I know, some of it got stuffed in my Tuffbin somehow, sneaky Afghan kids! They just don't make camo like that anymore, it's hot, but it's tuff stuff.

Yes, it does say so on this website concerning the "desert tigerstripe"-pattern.

Now that really makes me wonder, but since there are photo evidence of US SOF using it then I guess I don't have much else to say about it anymore.
