Iran-Greece ties progressed in 2007

ATHENS (IRNA) -- Political and economic ties between Iran and Greece had an upward trend in 2007, Iranian Charge d’Affaires in Greece, Mahmud Fazeli said on Friday.

Speaking to IRNA, the diplomat said that bilateral ties between the two countries were promoted “in view of the long history of Tehran-Athens relations and Iran’s undeniable role in the region.”

“Tehran will continue its consultations with Athens about major regional and international issues given the positive role played by Greece in the European Union,” Fazeli said.

He said the volume of Iran-Greece trade exchanges was over US$1.8 billion in 2007.

The diplomat expressed hope that Tehran and Athens would promote their cooperation in the fields of energy, agricultural, foodstuff, pharmaceutical, and transportation activities in the future.

According to latest figures, Iran is the third oil exporter to Greece after Russia and Saudi Arabia, Fazeli said.

As always Greece is trying to maintain good relationships with Muslim countries while staying a US ally.
It helps keeping the attention of organisations like Al-Qaeda away from us. Good job.

Iran is not just another muslim country in the ME, it's a regional power with shia majority, with which we have always had good relations and respect.

keeping good relations with Saudi Arabia protects us from AQ who accuses Saudis as traitors of Islam?

Having good enomonic and cultural ties with ANY country is good for both, but no policy protects you from terrorists AQ or any other. Especially when you are a US ally and host Us bases in your territory.

Sorry I didn't mean it this way....I meant we try to be good with everyone and as a result of our stance we haven't been targeted by radical Muslims (I meant our stance towards Palestine, Syria etc)

Of course Iran's influence in the region is also a bonus.
