Iran-Greece ties progressed in 2007
ATHENS (IRNA) -- Political and economic ties between Iran and Greece had an upward trend in 2007, Iranian Charge d’Affaires in Greece, Mahmud Fazeli said on Friday.
Speaking to IRNA, the diplomat said that bilateral ties between the two countries were promoted “in view of the long history of Tehran-Athens relations and Iran’s undeniable role in the region.”
“Tehran will continue its consultations with Athens about major regional and international issues given the positive role played by Greece in the European Union,” Fazeli said.
He said the volume of Iran-Greece trade exchanges was over US$1.8 billion in 2007.
The diplomat expressed hope that Tehran and Athens would promote their cooperation in the fields of energy, agricultural, foodstuff, pharmaceutical, and transportation activities in the future.
According to latest figures, Iran is the third oil exporter to Greece after Russia and Saudi Arabia, Fazeli said.
