Thank you for letting me participate in the forums. I have seen many references in the literature, in the US and in Europe, regarding French type F1 and F2 uniforms. However, I cannot find any difinitive literature defining exactly what constitutes what features make up the F1 or F2. What time frames were they used? Were they used generally or by special units? Any help is appreciated.

The F1 jackets have chest pockets and lower pockets. The F2 only has chest pockets. I think the F1 uniform was phased out in the early 90s. After that the OD F2 uniform was used until the camo version came out in the mid to late 90s. I believe the Gendarmerie still uses the OD F2 uniform.

You are partly right, the Gendarmerie has been the last armed forces branch to use the F2(Olive Drab), nowadays the F2(CE) is used by the four armed forces.

PS: CE stands for Centre Europe.
