You righties downplay it. It is f*cking torture. The reason why everybody thinks it's so important is that the US ought to give the right example. It's was the US government who said they would free the Iraqi people of torture and the such, but they do it themselves too. That's why people think it's a big deal.

Too right Dennis, few things have made me happier this year than finding out Uday and whatever his brother's name was, goot off'ed. And yes, the Uday video was torture. It was a kind of torture whose severity was far beyond anything the Americans subjected their prisoners too.
Be that as it may, by objective standards, the Americans performed a KIND of torture, albeit significantly more mild. Regardless, it was behaviour not becoming of a soldier and which reflects poorly on the US military. As such it is despicable.
What gets me, is that videoing it was just the height of stupidity!

That is not torture. I have seen and done much worse than that during and during clean up of riots in our local jail. Maybe we are viewing different videos?

Now the ****** assault rumblings, if true, are WAY out of line and need to be dealt with. The military courts are sorting it out and the guilty will be punished.

I would love to see the US just turn the prisons in Iraq over to an Israeli contingent. I think we would be getting some great intel out of there.

beating someone till they die is just abuse not torture right? who knows what other methods they are using. If they are using saddam's prisons then they have a ****load of torture methods to use.

I tend to agree with the post suggesting that the video's contents werent really torture, though a prisoner was struck and technically... technically shmechnically though. That in itself, i beleive, isnt a prosecutable offence. Reports, however, suggest that much more was occuring than was shown in that video. ****** abuse allegations and those relating to deaths in custody and in my opinion stain the honor of the Army. Killing someone in custody, among other things, simply isnt necessary.
I would also suggest that if the Army prosecutes, as seems to be happening, the higher ups who are the most cuplable, will likley be let off the hook.
