Good question..id like to see the differences as wel..im not an expert...but heres the training and info for the city of davis swat team...
The Davis Police Department SWAT Team was formed in 1972. We currently serve on a joint team with the West Sacramento Police Department. In addition, we are part of a countywide task force called ALERT (All Law Enforcement Response Team) that also includes the Yolo County Sheriff’s Department and the Woodland Police Department. There are 14 members on the Davis/West Sacramento team.
Since we have special training and additional tools not available to regular patrol officers, we are called to the scene for extraordinary situations. For example, we respond to hostage situations, barricaded suspects, civil unrest, and major natural disasters.
We train and operate in all types of environments: urban, rural and water. We train extensively in firearms, building and open field searches, and arrest procedures. We also get to do some fun training too: helicopter insertions, rappelling and rock climbing.
To get accepted onto the SWAT Team, all candidates must pass a rigorous physical fitness test, a psychological screening, two different interviews, and a two-week basic SWAT school. All our officers maintain their readiness by staying physically fit.
In addition to the tactical members of the team, there are three hostage negotiators. It is their job to work with the team to get barricaded suspects to surrender peacefully. They use a variety of techniques to de-escalate the situation and bring it to a nonviolent resolution.

WOW! Great post on your local SWAT teams. Do they also have Police/Fire medics attached to the teams or do they just stage them nearby. I know Berkeley Fire has two paramedics that are part of the SWAT teams and train along side them to provide instant medical support.
Ft. Collins Co Police Department maintains a part time SWAT team. The members must pass a physical/mental test, and attend several interviews. The work closely with the "Drug Task Force"
and thats about all I know. :|

I was always under the impression that here in FC the Denver SWAT team would be pulled up.

Thanks Sway , i appreciate your answer . I have some questions , what is the firearms training you pass ? Also what are the phisical fitness requirments ?
I understand that in order to serve in SWAT you have to be member of police force for some time (unlike in my country when one can enlist directly to Yamam-Swat team , but only after very harsh screening process called Gibush) .

The swatteam here is the ERU (emergency response unit), who carry out pretty much the same stuff as other such unit's and a bit more as they do free fall parachuting, diving, and mountainerring as well

SO19 (The Met''s 'SWAT'.) training, from their website http://www.met.police.uk/so19/...
Firearms Training
The new purpose built centre at Milton provides training to Met Police staff in all aspects of the firearms environment relevant to today's modern police service:·
Initial Firearms Courses
Armed Response Vehicle Course
Specialist Firearms Officers Course
National Firearms Instructors Course
Tactical Refreshers for all Authorised Firearms Officers
Firearms Incident Command Training
And other courses that fall within the remit of the Firearms Training Establishment from time to time
Initial Firearms Course
We aim to provide all the necessary skills, and theory, to allow an Officer to become an Authorised Firearms Officer and function in that role for whichever department that Officer may serve in.
The course is of two weeks duration and includes input on the Glock 17 Self-loading Pistol and the various drills, the Law, Basic Firearms Tactics, Target Identification, and Containments. Some time will be spent in the Simulation Gallery where students react to incidents and apply the Law to those incidents, in as near to real life as we can achieve.
A lot of time is spent on the ranges learning shooting skills and weapon handling. The course is structured so that an Officer, with no experience of firearms, will by the end of the course be able to complete a shooting test and be competent in the tactical use of Police firearms.
ARV Course
After being selected for becoming a member of the Armed Response Vehicles, the successful Officer will undertake a Basic Firearms Course, if not already an AFO, a one-week H & K MP5 Carbine course and then an intensive three-week ARV course. Having passed the course Officers are then posted to an ARV relief and attend training for three days every six weeks.
The ARV course covers aspects such as team building, vehicle deployments, building containments and firearm make-safes to an advanced level. The course introduces students to the subject of searching buildings for armed suspects, building searches using specially trained SO19 dogs and Legion Patrols (anti-terrorist patrols). Having passed the course Officers are then posted to an ARV relief and attend training for three days every six weeks.
Specialist Firearms Officers Course
This course provides training for SO19 officers who have passed an extensive selection process to become Specialist Firearms Officers. The course builds on the skills, and experience, these officers gain during their ARV duties, to equip them with the necessary skills for such operations as hostage rescue, rapid entries where firearms are believed to be involved, plain clothes support to other departments and maritime operations.
All Officers are abseil and shotgun trained prior to attending the course. The course seeks to enhance the Officers shooting skills to an advanced level. Officers must pass the National Rapid Intervention and the Specialist Firearms Officers Shoots.
The course covers various methods of effecting entry to buildings, including the use of pyrotechnics, distraction devices and the use of ladders! Officers are also trained to work in a variety of clothing, which will best protect them from any environment they may find themselves. This will include, chemical, biological and nuclear.

Ft. Collins maintains it own SWAT team. It consists of part time members (I believe it's usually Detectives) They ride around in umarked cars and carry their gear in the trunk. When somethings goes down, they recieve calls or messages on their beepers and respond as necassary. They do train quite often with Denvers Full tims S.W.A.T team though
