(May 18, 2004) - Two EA-6B Prowlers assigned to the "Cougars" of Electronic Attack Squadron One Three Nine (VAQ-139) fly in formation around Washington's Mount Rainier during a routine training mission. VAQ-139 is homeported at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Wash. and will soon be deploying to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. Its ability to monitor the electromagnetic spectrum and actively deny an adversary's use of radar and communications is unmatched by any airborne platform worldwide. At 14,410 feet, Mount Rainier is the most prominent peak in the Cascade Range. It dominates the landscape of a large part of western Washington State. The mountain stands nearly three miles higher than the lowlands to the west and one and one-half miles higher than the adjacent mountains. It is an active volcano that last erupted approximately 150 years ago.

I actually don't have a problem with others starting and perpetuating the daily pictures thread. The world operates on a 24 hr. clock so I would like to encourage others to contribute - as they do. Thanks Eddie, Double Tap, platform389 and all other posters!

However, when the thread is focused only on one specific region like Iraq or Israel, for example, then it becomes stagnant, especially after five pages of Israel/Palestine debate. The General Forums are for that!

So don't get me wrong out there. Keep posting. Stay focused. Use alternate picture sources to represent the global audience we have here at militaryphotos.net

Ever noticed how he's got the same "I am in a world of s**t" look that Pvt. Pyle had?

Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Wash. The EA-6B's primary mission is to protect fleet surface units and other aircraft by jamming hostile radars and communications. With its jamming capabilities together with AGM-88 High-Speed Anti-Radiation Missiles (HARM), the Prowler a unique national asset that can be deployed from land bases and aircraft carriers.

Nice pict! I just saw these guys here in Eastern Washington- last week on my way to and from the Oregon coast (I'm guessing it was the guys from Whidbey- they come this way from time to time). Spotted two passing low over highway 12 near Pasco Wa, and saw a third flying in the gorge over the columbia river near Umatilla Or.
