Anyone in the US or in Europe have this? How is it? Lot's of discussion in some firearms forums already. Waiting for it to get to my local gun store/range so I can purchase it.

Looks like a nice small calibre version of the good ol' Maschinenpistole. But... why need a .22 version of a 9mm. I agree with .22 versions of 5.56 assault rifles as cheap training method or to shoot in indoor ranges where only pistols are allowed. But 9mm doesn't cost that much, and you can shoot the MP5 always indoor. So why buy the thing over a real 5?

Because not in every part of the world you can buy the real thing on 9mm!

A semi-auto SMG in a pistol caliber is illegal, but the same thing in .22 is legal? Strange, but never discuss about the logic of gun laws. Sorry, didn't think about the legality factor.

In Finland rifle size (over 840mm) 9mm is totally fine, but anything under that is considered as "Muu ase" or "Other weapon". Licenses for "Muu ase" are under special consideration so basicly it's quite hard to get license for 9mm MP5 for example. That's why GSG installed that fake silencer to cover longer barrel :P

I see the logic behind all this. Thanks for enlightening me.

P.S: Gun laws like these are crap.

I understand your opinion, which is valid. MP-5's are a bit expensive and not everyone in the US can get them (Cough-cough, Kalifornia). The GSG-5 can also be used for training for LE departments that still use H&K MP-5 series SMG's and the ammo costs less.

Exactly ammo cost less and is fun to plink all day long wit a cool looking gun, besides your kids will love it.

I wonder what's the price here in the US?

$499 from online ads, plus shipping & handling and of course all the fees. I also got wind of an AK version coming later. Couple of sites:

Icarus is over thinking this one. Why buy one? because as tango said, it's a cool looking .22, it'd be fun as hell to plink with. And remember, you can never have too many guns. :)

You're right, you're right. I see the point now. And 499$ isn't that much for a good fungun to shoot and train. I know my vision is a little bit blurry sometimes, because I live in "what you see is what you get" Switzerland, where you buy a semi auto MP5 (or AR15, AK etc) without problems.

Looks like fun...I'd be keen to have a blat if it's NZ legal......down here real MP5s I only get the chance to LOOK at....and then only rarely.

The real deal is possible to own down here....for a cool $12-15k

Good luck.

Pistol grip, semi auto, detachable mag... three features or was it four?

Icarus, don't bother trying to learn our gun laws. They're completely retarded. The ones who make the laws don't know sh*t about firearms, PERIOD.

10-22!!!!

Can imagine from the sh1t I hear... damn. Gun laws are there to protect, no? Why is a 9mm weapon with a pistol grip or a detachable mag more dangerous than a hunting rifle with 12g ammo? Damn, I should stop thinking about it. Laws are made by the most intelligent people on earth who just want our best and protect our children ;-)

It only looks like an MP5 externally - the internal mechanism is completely different (no rollers, recoil operated, firing from open bolt)!

The manual can be downloaded here (http://www.germansportguns.de/gsg5/media/files/gsg5-english.pdf).

And to add a WTF?: According to German gun laws this gun can not be bought by sports shooters - you need a hunting license to own it...

Hope this thing is able to come into Canada. MP5s and all variants are prohibited here and those who have grandfathered MP5s are not even able to take them to the range anymore. If this rifle has internals that are a little different than the MP5 and meets length requirements (which are about 660mm iirc) then we are good to go. Another good thing about this little gem being chambered in 22lr is that here in Canada, a 22 has no restrictions on magazine capacity whereas a centerfire can have only 5 rounds unless the same magazine can be used in a pistol and is marked as a pistol mag, not a rifle mag. (confused yet? ;))
