Sarkozy sends condolences to President Peres following Dimona attack

In the aftermath of the terrorist attack on Dimona, French President Nicolas Sarkozy has sent a message of support and encouragement to President Shimon Peres.

In the message, Sarkozy expresses his own condolences and those of the French people for the trauma that Israel is once again experiencing.

Sarkozy adds that his thoughts are with the families of the victims and with those who were hurt in the explosion. Terrorist activities are completely unacceptable, he writes, adding that France is unequivocally opposed to them, and will defend herself against them in the strongest possible manner.

Sarkozy also assures Peres that France will continue to stand firm with Israel in the fight against terrorism, and will provide any assistance necessary to eradicate terrorism and bring about peace.

Sarkozy is one of the best things that happened in European politics in many years. He seems to be a strong leader, something we havent had too many of over here the last many years...

The gold digging will keep her silence on the inevitable mistresses. I think its a compulsory entitlement for a French head of state.

Well, Mussolini was a strong leader too, so that's not saying much.

The whole "ZOMG France is/was anti-Semetic and anti-Israel" thing is just hype if you ask me. France has always been more or less pro Israeli. If you doubt that, just ask the IAF which plane won them the Six Days War ;);)

They had no choice. :) Chirac's two terms were up, and by law he had to step down.

thats in the US, in France I think there is no limit to the number of terms a president can serve.

No, no such a law.
But Chirac had other issues with the law, and apparently, his stepping down was the price for him being left alone with his skeletons in his closet.

Also, a Chirac vs Royal would have probably ended with a socialist victory, or worse, a repetition of the 2002 Front National success at the first round, not something France would benefit.

Mussolini was a dictator more than a leader. There is a difference.
Never said that France was anti-israel. But, on the other hand, you dont have to be that very pro, just to sell weapons.

That election period was so f*cking funny! i was in france and when LePenn came out with such a big difference after the first round everyone was like "putain! on doit aller voter!" *f*ck! we have to go vote!* cz the majority of people didnt even bother to go vote for the first round...i guess they prefered even Chirac over LePenn
