One US marine killed near Fallujah: military
FALLUJAH, Iraq (AFP) May 23, 2004
A US marine was killed near Iraq's powderkeg Sunni Muslim city of Fallujah, west of Baghdad, the US military said Sunday.
"One marine was killed this afternoon just north of Fallujah," said Major T.V. Johnson, spokesman for the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force based just outside the city.
The latest fatality brought the US military death toll in Iraq to 795 since the start of the US-led invasion in March 2003. This figure includes 579 troops killed in action.
