Yes, like an M110, but it is 45 calibre. I don't know what chassis it used.

It doesn't look like that can be loaded and fired without exiting the vehicle.

A better design would have been more like the M109 where the occupants can control and fire the gun while protected from small arms and shrapnel.

Furthermore, I doubt that thing can hold many extra rounds internally - if any.

It probably can't be loaded easily either - those rounds must weight a lot.

Usually a weapon system like the M110 operates at a distance from the front lines where immediate counter-battery and small arms fire are not an issue. It is long-range artillery, not a tank or assault gun. All that aside, I can't remember if we field these heavy systems anymore (M107 and M110), having replaced them to my knowledge with the M270 MRLS.

u r quite correct they r no longer in service (front line anyway)and yes they were replaced by MLRS

8" rounds were a pretty big logistical burdon as well.
