hmmm nice way to to insult black people with out 'looking' racist, or bigoted. I guess suburban/headbanger/metal culture was the greatest thing ever and will be looked upon with reverance by future generations. Or how about the Seattle/grunge/i look like a dirty bum thing white people loved for a bit. Wow, look mommy i can make dumba$$ generalized statements too! I also guess it gets your panties in a bunch to see the bull**** urban/gangsta/rap culture dominating the airwaves, oh well life's a bitch huh?
There is more to urban culture than rap and there is more to rap than what u generalize as 'gangsta'....funny how white people label all rap as 'gangsta'....even calling east coast rappers 'gangsta' when 'gangsta' was a west coast thing. Let me educate; if u walk around in chucks, baggy khakis (or ****ie work ensembles) scullys, black raider caps (or any california sports team), throw up the westside hand sign constantly and end all profound statements with a hearty WESSSIIIIDDDDEEE! you are a WEST coast 'gangsta'. Examples of which r NWA alumni, Snoop, Mack 10.
Jay-Z, Notorious BIG, 50 cent, Busta Rhymes, Nas, Mobb Deep even are not 'gangsta' rappers. There might be similarities (mainly i guess because they rap) but there are distinct differences.
Anyway i have bought my share of different color air force ones. I have even had some customized with gucci, and iceberg material ( i guess that makes me an urban/gangsta/rap fad hag huh brozozo..oh well we all have our crosses to bear)....but pink? I only got those for the ex gf.

F*ck, maybe. I wouldn't know and wouldn't care. Distinct differences, huh? Like in what way you give props? Sure.
When you get older you're gonna look back and think, "F*ck, I don't believe we did all that stupid sh*t back then." It happens to every generation. Just think, the 50's were considered to be an uptight era, the 60's generation was filled with a bunch of pot smoking, haircut needing hippies, the 70's were filled with teenagers wearing polyester suits and copying each of Travolta's moves from Saturday Night Fever, the 80's was the time of cheesy big-hair bands etc. People are gonna look back at this era and see a bunch of kids wearing 10 layers of the most expensice brand name clothing but not having enough money for bus fare or a Big Mac.
Keepin' it real.

btw 2Pac was gangsta????
lol, any way i can help u understand 'us' better!
Pac was more 'thuggish' than' gangsta'. pac didn't actually grow up on the streets, or do anything that would have made him a 'lil g' when he was a kid, he attended a prestigous Fine Arts school in NY (with Jada Pinkette Smith no less!) then broke into the business as a back up dancer for Digital Underground. When Pac broke into the big time he was definitly 'thuggish' (i.e f*** the world, imma get mine forget everything else type style) hence the Thug life tatoo he sported. Then after he was shot he evolved and let his sensitive side come through (hence the classic 'Dear Mama') and he wrote some awesome poetry, read the "rose that grew from Concrete' his poem to Nikki Giovanni is a thing of beauty. F*** it here is an excerpt lol....
Sometimes I Cry
Sometimes when I'm alone
I cry because I'm on my own
The tears I cry R bitter and warm
They flow with life but take no form
I cry because my heart is torn
and I find it difficult 2 carry on
If I had an ear 2 confide in
I would cry among my treasured friends
But who do u know that stops that long
to help another carry on
The world moves fast and it would rather pass u by
than 2 stop and c what makes u cry
It's painful and sad and sometimes I cry
and no one cares about why.
Pac only started acting like a 'gangsta' after he signed with deathrow records (Suge Knight pretty much owned Pac after getting him out of jail, so Pac had to do what Suge wanted), before that he never threw up the westside sign or ever said westside till i die. So IMO he was not 'gangsta'

distinct differences as in style, u can hear a west coast song and tell it's different from a song produced in the south, or from the midwest, or the east coast. It ain't nothing to do with props. And if u don't know how u gonna comment? That's 'keepin' it real'...pardner

OK, maybe there are regional differences in music style. My prefered music (trance/euro) differs by regions as well, even though someone not interested in the music will never be able to tell.
But you have to recognize that this whole urban/thug/gangsta/rap...call it what you want..thing going on right now will fade away eventually, just like every other cultural phenomenon this past century.

I think it'll fade away, rock is still around, but it isn't as influencial as it was in the 50's and maybe 80's where rock was the defining identity of the generation. Sure, people still listen to disco and it's modern derivatives but disco aint what it used to be in the 70's. Rarely, a culutural phenomenon dies away completely, it does evolve as you said but it also does fade. Rap/Hip-hop will be around 20 years from now and even longer but it won't be the biggest "in-thing" or nearly as influencial as it is now.

i never said it will be the dominant thing 20 years from now, all things will change, and i am no prognosticator so who knows what will be popular. Hip hop / rap has been around since the late 70's (the first song to hit number one with rap in it....'Rapture' by Blondie). Most fads that die off have a short lifespan. Rap has been around for centuries (it goes back to the african tradition of oral storytelling). In the furue for all i know japanese taiko drums will be all the rage and everybody'll be sportin some chic kimonos made by gucci!lol
