View Full Version : Can't Decide (between AR-15s)

I've been reading information on AR brands and such over the past few months and have narrowed the field down to two possibilities. The company bonus is about to get to the bank, and I'm looking to buy my first ever AR-15. But, I can't decide between the following rifles.

The decision is between:

Colt 9620
http://www.colt.com/law/lecarbine.asp

Rock River Pro-Series TASC
http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=215

I'm leaning more to the Colt as it has the 1:7 twist on the barrel of which I approve. Also, the field would be open as for addons (handguard with rail, optics, etc.). The RRA seems nice because it has a lot of the "pretty stuff" already there. The EOTech would most likely get replaced down the road (maybe an ACOG). The 1:9 twist is nice, but I believe I would be more happy with the 1:7 of the Colt.

The purpose for the gun? I would probably be target shooting mostly.

So of the two, with which would you guys go?

This is my humblest opinion. I have shot the Colt, a RRA AR, DPMS, and Bushmaster. I don't see any big difference in accuracy. You said it's just for target practice? I say buy a basic STAG or DPMS. You can spend the extra money and Guccing out your AR.

Personally, between the two listed, I would go with the 9620. That's just my .02 worth.

Have fun with this thread and whichever bang stick you end up buying.

Talk to Pete at http://evil-black-rifles.com (http://evil-black-rifles.com/)

He'll hook you up with whatever you want usually at a hell of a price.

My personal choice between those two would be the Colt.

I did my research and decided the LE 6920 from Colt was the best AR for me.
It will wear a LaRue 7.0 Free Float rail system, an EOTech, a LMT SOPMOD and a BLUE FORCE (VCAS) 2-Point Combat Sling.

Two different products for two different purposes. You cant compare them.

between the two....I'd get the Colt with its nice chrome lined barrel, milspec buttstock, factory M4 feed ramps, F marked FSB and MP tested bolt.

there's only one thing wrong with Colt....they still use .170'' pins for the trigger group.
I don't care about the pins but someone does.

if you want to save money get a LMT: simply the closest thing to a Colt but with milspec trigger group pins (if you care about it)

When I was hunting around for my personal AR 15 platform zombie killer (my work M4 is a Colt), I scoped out a bunch. I got a good deal on an RRA upper that had some nice gear on it and maybe 100 rounds from a buddy. I went w/an RRA lower to match it up. I have not been disappointed. DEA has had no problems with their RRAs, that I know of.

If it isaa choice between Colt and RRA, i wouold take the RRA.

Colt has the actual TDP which is actual what all mil M4 are built upon. there is no backwards engineering to the colt.

All mil-spec parts on Colt, RRA sometime does not like to play well with other manufactures.

Chrome line barrel and MP inspected parts are very important to the longivity of the systemt.

properly stake gas key on the Colt.

plus you get the M4 feed ramp which are an nice addition.

If you shoot within 100yrds, i would not give up the EOTech, it is that much faster optic then an ACOG. if your normal range are 100 plus yards and most of your shooting rest in the 2-300 yrds, the ACOG are the better alternative. I usually shoot circle around people with magnified optics from 50 yrds or closer. the merge get closer from 50 -100. at 100 yds, the magnified optic begin to gain an advantage. but I usually are till faster on target with the EOTechout to at least 100yrds.

What he's saying is that if he were given the choice of the two in comparison. How the RRA would be the better of the two. I would go with your Purse buddy. There are ALOT of nice AR's for the budget. incoming PM.

You had me wondering there for a bit. When reading some of your other posts, I thought I might have been reading that wrong. rofl

I might have to try the Johnny Walker. I can't remember ever drinking that stuff. I usually drink Bushmills and Guinness. Those two always seem to put me on the crooked path. ;)
