I know the quality of this pic isn't great...as you probably know it was taken from the hostage rescue operation.

My question is: is that a Heckler & Koch 416? I don't think it's an M4 as it doesn't seem to have a front sight the M4 has. Looks like it also has a one of those "Ready Mags"

Would be grateful if someone could help

Thanks

Is there a gun? I can see only wire(or whatever)cutters. Could you somehow highlight it?

EDIT: Gee, I am really blind. Sorry, my fault.

that looks like an M4, with an EO-tech holographic sight, and a doulbed-up ready mag.

unless you are talking about those bolt-cutters...

I wouldnt be so quick to identify it as a 416. the guy's righ bolt-cutters are blocking the veiw of the foresight. And the forestock/grip (NOT vertical foregrip) doesnt seem to be as long as that of a 416.

If you watch the video....rather than just looking at the picture, at the end when the guys using the bolt cutters on the hand cuffs his weapon is moving about and you can see there is no front site...as in the type you'd see on an M4..

You'll see he's got a ANPEQ2 Infrared Illuminator Aiming Laser on the the top..just before the front site...

I'll see if I can get another screen shot without the cutters blocking the front site

I want to know if those are SOCOM SOPMOD block 2 approved bolt cutters. I knew there was a selection competition going on with the spec'ed bolt cutters, but I have not find any documentation on who is the final selection winner. I know the bolt cutter has to be Picatinny rail compatible with MOLLE attachment and a mini red dot sight install for precision cutting. the requirement also need the cutter to be in line with the upcoming IR laser designator which can help the operator slect the proper area to apply pressure. all of this can also be remotely controlled.

Anything about a bipod to aid in precise cutting and a 90,000,000 lumen LED light for those pesky night-time missions?

It's definitly some sort of Armalite (AR-15 based) and from size and shape I'd say something like an M4, or maybe as some think the HK counter-part 416. It can be both, since you can make an M4 look almost exacly like a HK416 with the right rail interface and stuff like that.

Do you know where the pic is taken? Because I don't think that the HK416 is in service anywhere right now, it's quite new.

My best bet: Modified M4 with Eotech sighting systems, probably a RIS/RAS, CASV or SIR rail system on it.

OT: The sight is an Eotech 552 or 551 (cant see how long it is), if you wondered :P.

HK 416....

After a bit of adjusting, the redi-mag is seen easily as is the slightly larger lower receiver assembly just above the pistol grip.

The slant of the pistol grip is sloped more in this pic than on the M4, the thickness of the pistol grip is slightly thicker than that of an M4, and the length of the pistol grip shown is slightly longer than that of an M4.......IMHO

Not seeing any similarity with the PKM....larger, heavier, not an assaulter weapon [second pic]

This thread needs to be archived. Back when it started it was solid gold. But to get the honest and forthright responses we've gotten today is really special.

And Masai is right bc its so clearly a PKM. Its really not even open to debate.

OK hank....geeeez...again?? 1st Q: Have you ever fired a PKM?

I have, in the sandbox, on the road, at the range, on many occasions.....along with the non similarities to the PKM and the weapon pictured, check the SCAR thread and it's similarities to the rifle in the photo...easy biz...

Another thing about the 'crew-served' PKM....Assaulters do not carry this casualty inducing weapon and a hoolie tool/bolt cutters/breacher tools. Too big and too cumbersome....the PKM's would be on the perimeter...inducing casualties.....

The folks with the 416's and the M4's do carry those tools for just this scenario.....

This one's not worth arguing over but wow.....this one's not even close....

razor, you really need to go get some clinical help. And work on your situational awareness. For someone with your creds you should know that sit awareness is key.

This thread has been a joke since it started. "It looks like a PKM" has been a joke on this forum ever since the day it was first posted. Masai picked up on the hilarity of someone bumping this thread and all the new "expert" opinions about that weapon and I simply commented.

Your obsession with me is unhealthy. And its still a PKM beyond doubt noob and I've never been to the sandbox (except with my four year old) or fired a crew-served weapon or eaten **** in a jungle or any of that stuff. I guess if you are a glass half-full guy you are now a legend. Congratulations. Ain't that "intricate?"
