Ive have recently read that,despite Recruitment shortages and the last cuts in the UK Forces there is talk about expanding 2 and 3 Para in Ranks?
Ive read that this expandings will be in Patrols Platoon,MG Platoon and in the Infantry Platoons,which would be beefed up with a Manouvre Support Section similiar to the Royal Marines. Expanding the MG Platoon with more Personnel to simultanioulsy operate GMG,GMPG and HMG and not just a pool of those weapons?
Can anyone confirm this,Im trying to find this quote again.

i havent heard anything about that with reference to the hmg.gpmg and gmg hmg and gpmg are operated by the mg platoon while the gmg and javelin are operated by the anti tank platoon both platoons are cross trained on each others weapon systems and depending on the task and threat and wether we are vehicle mounted or ground mounted depends on what weapon systems go.

we pool the 2 platoons together to make fire support groups and then these are then attached to each of the rifle coys.as ive said before on another thread para reg and the marines have been working like this for years the rest of the army has just begun to sit up and take notice

In Ross Kemp's Afghan series you can see 1 R ANGLIAN doing this kind of thing (Fire Support Groups) too, must have learned from your guys experience AirborneJock. A lot of units seem to have GPMG (Light Role) back in the rifle platoons, from what I've read on ARRSE a rifle section will either have 2x Minimi or 1x Minimi and 1x GPMG, plus of course SA80s (2 with UGL).

yes the royal anglian do it in that series to be honest most of the army hasnt had wmik or hmg available to them to put forward the fsg concept.
i quite enjoyed being asked by a royal anglian captain if i knew anything about working in fsgs.....................a little.
as for the gpmg in the sections para reg have always maintained it in the platoon and its came back in vogue with the rest of the army now although i dont know if there is an official scaling or not.and ive still seen units using the lsw **** knows what for though.
