I've been looking closely at the SCAR and ACR, trying to find out which will be the better rifle, and I've come up with a question.
The EGLM associated with the SCAR has two black eyelets near the muzzle. I cannot for the life of me figure out what they're for. They seem too small for sling attachement points, and don't interface with any grenade sight I've seen.
They're plainly evident here (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e6/FN_EGLM.jpg/800px-FN_EGLM.jpg). They don't help mount the launcher to the rifle, either.
What gives? Any shots of them in use?

I always thought they were sling attachment points and you had the choice of mounting the sling on the right or left side depending on your firing hand. there is an eyelet of the same size on top of the stock too, supporting this hypothesis....

I am guessing that they are sling points, also. But I do not know for sure. If you are trying to find out if the EGLM can attach onto the ACR, I would say there is a good chance of it. Most grenade launchers are developed in a configuration (or eventually) so that they can be attached onto a different platform other that just the model the were developed along side with (ie: the SCAR w/ the EGLM and the XM320 w/ the M4). You might even possibly be able to detach those sling points with a screw driver or something, if they are for sure sling mounts. But I do not know for sure.......I would check with someone who has messed around with it a lot or developed it.

As much as I love Magpul, should this even be a fair question? SCAR is FN. can you imagine FN, the company that supply all the M16, M249, M240, M2, Mk46, MK48 to the Us military. the resources behind this project is amazing to speak of. and you want to know if the SCAR and ACR are on the same plane? think about it..

SMG, you're the picture guy. Any photos of the SCAR slung from those points? They look neither practical nor sturdy.

My guess is they are used to attach a sling when the the EGLM is used detached from the rifle as in the picture you linked.

It is embedded into the actual receiver of the launcher, it is very sturdy.
as far as the sling getting int the way. the stand alone system is just that, it is mean to be carried in a pouch behind thge back of the operator. the sling is just for easy of carry when it is under use by the operator. it really does not get in the way too much.
