A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, in his offices and aboard a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.

I have read about him. I was admiring the fact he was USN pilot and a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War. Also he seems to be holding up very good for his age, maybe this incident proves he's still on the game.

I can't believe this stuff gets reported. I can't believe anybody gives a rat's tail. The question going through my mind now--just like ten years ago with Clinton--is who in the hell cares? Really. This is junior high school nonsense.

Hey, just before the last election, the papers said that Kevin Rudd (our new Prime Minister) was warned for "inappropriate behavior" in a NY strip club.
It didnt do him any harm, if anything it showed how he is normal.

just about to say the same thing. Candidates (and camp managers) will do anything to win. They will go into your credit history, criminal history, your health, your *** life, your experience with everyone, how you feel about gays and so on. It's a dirty selection process and you can't please everyone.

You may be right--thanks for the perspective. I hope you are right!
But, the thing is that in American politics this type of "indiscretion" usually calls for some kind of theatrical teary-eyed confession on live television. Our press loves that and can never let that stuff go.
I just don't want to have to deal with this again in the national spotlight. Once in a lifetime is more than enough for me!

Yes, in fact he's polling around 3% of the Republican vote. Totally viable. Like, totally.

If McCain gets the party ticket do you think he has a solid chance against Obama? Obama is like the new Jesus and takes lead over McCain in polls. Will start changing their minds after the debates between D-R start, or Obama is just too favorable against any Republican?

NY Times = Bastion of accuracy and unbiased reporting. Seriously, everything the NYT has ever reported is without any biased at all, they're not the left-wing nuts everyone makes them out to be. Lot's of gossip and speculation. I'm glad the NYT gave up on reporting facts.

At this point, Al Jazeera has more impact on my media input then the NYT.

I got here late. What's the scoop, the Times is reporting that McCain is Obama's father? Hillary will have a field day...if she can possibly be seen to have a genuine emotion.
I can only imagine the impending phone conversation.
Bill: John, how are ya? Was it good?
John: So Mr. President, any special places in the WH I should know about? How do you keep the Secret Service off your back?
Bill: Oh... and here's the number of a good dry-cleaner, but they don't pick up.

Based on what I've read so far (and it's not a lot), there seems to be very little of substance to this new "controversy". If I were a McCain supporter, this would not be enough to sway me. At least not yet.

Didn't the NYT endorse McCain? Even though they were sitting on this story?
This will make the conservative base rally behind McCain do to a loathing of the NYT
strategy:
1) Obtain “story” (actually rumors & innuendos) about McCain, but hide it
2) endorse McCain
3) publish story when he’s the nominee

Who is surprised? This game functions both ways in American politics. Let's dry the republican tears and not forget Fox News' 'Madrassa' lies and the genius 'Swift Boat Veterans for Truth' slandering. Another reason to not let Billary win because she will pull out every stop on trying to smear whoever she faces.
As long as voters, readers and society don't punish this kind of smear and slander with sanctions and a refusal to consume it will go on. Why? Because apparently it works.

Respect to McCain..! A true man. Refreshing to see a *** 'scandal' that is a good old fashioned older man porking younger woman sort of thing - instead of the typical god-fearing republican senators cruising public toilets for manlove, when they're not busy filibustering about jesus, family values and against gay rights.
I find it impossible to comprehend that someone like Huckabee could have a chance in hell of becoming president.

McCain ready for “war” with NYT
"The McCain campaign is using a two-****ged attack to push back against the story. First, they’ll argue it was a thinly sourced piece of innuendo journalism. But McCain aides will also strike at the source, using the Times’ liberal reputation as a means of self-defense to draw sympathy from the GOP’s conservative base.
To this end, a top McCain adviser accused the paper of practicing tabloid journalism.
“It’s not every night I stay up to read the National Enquirer,” said Charlie Black, who was with other top McCain aides at the senator’s Arlington, Va., headquarters to mount the counterattack.
Black noted he had taken heat from some of his “conservative friends’ after McCain won the paper’s endorsement in January. “We’re going to go to war with them now,” Black said. “We’ll see if that hurts or helps.”

I have worked in Politics in the US. This kind of crap comes up all the time. Remember the Bush National Guard documents on CBS? Major parts of the media are very Liberal and do not want another republican in the white house. Everyone including Hilary Clinton agrees that the media is giving Obama a free ride here. I expect McCain's vietnam record will come into question before the election is over. This kind of bs is put out to get republicans to distrust McCain more than they do right now. simple as that. in 2000, the Bush Campaiagn got a story running that the adopted baby cindy McCain broguth back from ...... Was really a child McCain had with a black women while cheating on his wife. Complete BS.

So, for the sake of clarity:
First, who did Vicki Iseman lobby for?
Second, what did interests did she represent before McCains committee for them?
Third, did her lobbying efforts succeed and did the company/group she lobbied for get what they wanted?
I think if we could answer those three questions it would make things a lot more clear, at least for me...

Apparently someone else already answered the first two questions I posed above:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/02/20/vicki-iseman-who-is-mcca_n_87692.html
From her page on the firm's website -- which was pulled from the web (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/02/20/vicki-isemans-bio-pulled_n_87698.html) shortly after the New York Times story broke -- there is this: "[Iseman] has consulted for clients who are interested in government contracting opportunities. She has assisted corporations through the authorization and appropriation process. An active fundraiser, she has organized and participated in many political fundraising events."
Now who would be foolish enough to pull a website and think that the data is now gone? The internet has an eternal memory..

I'm more worried about the fact that she's a lobbyist and apparently was quite chummy with the Senator, than the fact that she has a ******. We are sure she has a ******, right? I mean, have we checked?
I find it impossible to comprehend that someone like Huckabee could have a chance in hell of becoming president.
That's funny- I thought exactly the same thing about Clinton in '92. At the time, the NYT did the same thing to Bush '41, alleging an affair with Jennifer Fitzgerald - which both the Dukakis and Clinton campaigns made and issue of. Nothin' new here.

The thing is that the TNR got caught publishing false stories about Iraq and they are still operating with not consequences and run stories like this.
There is no justice with these media organizations, they are not accountable to anything when they back each other up.
