Bomb Explodes Outside Baghdad Hotel, Two Wounded
BAGHDAD (*******) - A suspected car bomb exploded on Tuesday outside a Baghdad hotel used by foreigners and close to the Australian embassy, wounding at least two people, witnesses and police said.
Witnesses said a stationary car exploded outside the Karma hotel. The blast was also close to an Australian military checkpoint near the embassy.
The hotel was not severely damaged in the blast, although several windows were blown out. Guerrillas fighting the U.S.-led occupation of Iraq have often targeted hotels used by foreigners.
Haitham Youssef, a hotel waiter standing among shattered glass in the lobby, said no Westerners had been in the hotel when the bomb went off.
"We only had a few Egyptians and Jordanians staying in the hotel, and we had a newlywed Iraqi couple but they left right after the blast," he said.
