Anybody know what this leg armour is for?
For all I can see they don't have torso armour in any of the other photos, just this leg armour.
If it were ballistic armour I would have thought they have the upper protection aswell.

I don't understand, they'll cover up their legs with ballistic wear, their torso with body armor, but they won't cover up their heads?

Ish makes no sense.

They have helmets and face shields (it's tucked underneath their right arms).

Ok ok, everybody's tired or something? there are quite some odd questions/remarks esp... "I don't understand, they'll cover up their legs with ballistic wear, their torso with body armor, but they won't cover up their heads?
Ish makes no sense." lol velvet thanks for opening his eyes.

You just had to play outside as a kid and you'd know that unless you practiced thai boxing or somehting your shins are sensitive, don't believe me? Go ahead and kick something with them, not with full force even. :)

my IQ is higher than you can probably count. i have more than likely fired more rounds and held more weapons than most of the people posting here have seen. i owned more than 65 firearms before our illustrious government took them. if anyone would like to discuss these matters in person, give me a personal message and i'll give you my address.

now, on to the matter of the french. my grandfather fought the germans in france and earned a bronze star doing it. if that doesn't give me the right to rib them a little, i don't know what would.

Regardless of what you may have done during your lifetime, you didn't fight in WW 2, your grandfather did. Don't you think it's high time you stopped sitting on his laurels? So no, I don't think you're justified in giving anyone a ribbing.

I am also very interested in knowing how our "illustrious government" managed to confiscate 65 firearms which you once owned. I own 19 myself and I've never had a problem.

You are pathetic.......if your grand-fathers deeds (Respect for the man and I'm immensly grateful to him and his fellow soldiers) is all you have to excuse your brainfarts you should try and get a life of your own. Go do your homework boyo or mummy will take away the computer...clown.

Only if you had competed with this unit in some sort of training or test or whatever and you would know them, you could "rib" them. Nothing gives you a "right". To assume that is ridiculous and grade A retarded.

That's one of the most ignorant statements i came accros in the last couple of weeks or even months. Stupid jokes are the norm, but the try to base it on a family relation is ridiculous. And i'm in awe of the lack of creativity. "huhu, french run away". Do the job of the soldiers on the pics you "rib" there. No, instead you use the achievements of another person in a completely unrelated matter to claim a right to ridicule actual soldiers. If you "rib" someone, you assume you're on their eyelevel and know everything about them. Pure unfounded arrogance. The other description would be: Just spouting lame old, uncreative, unfunny, prejudiced crap.

In the same moment i can assure you of a whiney ass reaction, if someone "dishonoured" any of "your" soldiers with a sloppy, generalising, offhand comment. Enough time on this forum.

Hi everybody

This is my first post, so I want to salute the members of this forum .

Now back to the equipment we are talking about (and beside all that one more time french-bashnig i will not comment even if i'am very very upset of)

These leg protections were first deployed several years ago among our "gendarmes mobiles" companies (i.e : gendarme entitled to riot and crowd control) after a particulary ugly strike of some fishers were marine alarm fireworks and metalic bolt were either fired or thrown purposely into the leg of some of them (which was of course at that time unprotected by the battledress and hardly covered by the riot shield)
Several of them had very bad leg wounds (don't remember but in one afternoon there was more than hal a doezn of broken leg bones)

From that time every unit control being military (i.e : "gendarmes mobiles") or police (i;e: CRS for "compagnies republicaines de securité") have this gears as a protection.

So it is normal to have riot dedicated soldiers in a unstable area or country to have the same.

That's the story, nothing to do with god knows what second WW or else

Just one thing more : these leg protections can cover only the lower part of the legs (shinbone that's it ??) or depending of the mobility needed (and obvisouly we have here a static unit) can cover the entire leg

Welcome. Wise words.

The CRS, the dutch Marechaussee and the BGS use these types of protection for C&R control. Being brother corps does have its benefits p-)

Not sure why I am still getting flamed here. I admitted that I am unworthy of the special ops shock troops of this internet forum. Obviously most of you guys are highly skilled killing machines, with vast knowledge of all things military. I'll just take a back seat and learn from your intense deep intellectual banter.

I don't think anyone is still flaming you. You have to understand that you just joined and people like me have been here since 2003. We've seen every retarded French "cheese eating surrender monkeys" post there is.

It's not gawddamned funny anymore.

And I think you'd agree, it's pretty f*cking lame to say your grandfather won a bronze star so you have the right to slag the history of an entire military of another country in a thread about wearing riot control leg armor.

If you're a combat vet and you have insight please feel free to share some knowledge. It is always welcome. Bear in mind, this is an international forum.

Point taken on the first thought. I hear ya there.

I also get you on the second point. In addition, I have always said (and have found to be true) that people who constantly talk about their service & skills, etc are like the guys in high school who constantly talked about *** and girls: Most of them are full of it.

FYI, I have never been in military combat. I have never had to fire a weapon at another person. My "combat" thankfully has been limited to one-on-one unarmed combat outside a military engagement. I am actually quite happy about that. I doubt anyone sleeps well at night, later in life after living through military combat. At least my numerous close family members who have been, tell me this. From what I have seen and lived through growing up, it is something no one wants to be proud of or talk of.
