So there i was on top of the cliffs looking for a rabbit hole which would lead to a 50metre underground shelter from WW2.

Found it, very muddy inside. The entrance was exposed because the earth had collapsed.

all mud for the first 20 metres then there were stair cases. Thats not me in the picture btw.

There were 3 main sets of tunnels which were all linked together by smaller tunnels

I was along these cliffs near Dover

You could see France from the cliffs.

This looked like a slide goinig from the top of the cliffs to the bottom. Decieded no to try it out though

You can't have a pub lunch without beer. Water was so i stayed hydrated.

Lunch was nice. Although when they said it came with a salard i thought they meant a salard not a fruit salard. Strange people, probably too close to France. They advertised the pub as the closest pub to France, didnt mean the beer was at French prices though :(

Does this look safe to you?
http://img29.photobucket.com/albums/v88/chrisoutlet/Dover_066.jpg

A light switch, not sure why it didn't work.
http://img29.photobucket.com/albums/v88/chrisoutlet/Dover_063.jpg

Probably a sign not to go any further, luckily i'm stupid so i ignored it.

This was a set of underground tunnels which were to provide shelter to the men who manned a battery of guns which over looked Dover Harbour in WW2. There are loads of these defensives all around the Dover area starting from the Napoleonic times to the Cold War.

Anyway found the location of another et of tunnels, this time an underground radar station so will get pictures next weekend.

Bacilluspolymyxa what sort of sites are you planning on looking at?

Really nice. How many other tunnels are there like this one? There a lot of tunnels up at Dover. Some are from Napoleonic times up to the Cold War. Theres caves and tunnels for smugglers and fishermen, plus bunkers for gun batteries, search lights, OPs, air raid shleters etc etc. Will find some more detailed infomation and post it later. The only problem is finding stuff which isn't on private land and it still accessible. A lot of the places have been blocked up for health and safety reasons, they dont want people suing the owners.

Hi Roger Rabbit we will be looking at a former Cold War site in the New York area its been bricked up since the 60's and the area around it is being developed so it might be touch and go for access. :)

The underground kent site is always worth a visit there seems to a few surface sites worth a visit on the North kent coast. The Secret Bunker is up in Fife I am down on the Solway Firth not much to see on the Scottish side some OK caves and copper mines though.

I grew up on the English side of the Solway Firth, a town called Silloth.

I have been through Silloth a couple of times but its the only town on the coast down that way that I have never had a walk round I am fairly familiar with Maryport and Whitehaven, I am just outside Kirkcudbright.
