I'm off to complete the last selection step before being accepted into flight school. There are a hundred candidates left and they are only going to keep 40 out of the 400 that applied in the begining. The flight school is located in Chicoutimi and is unique in the fact that it is actually part of the Quebec public education system. That means that I, if I'm accepted, will be doing my private, commercial, IFR, and multi-engined licences for free. There are also helecopter and ski/float plane licences available.
I'm going there for three days worth of tests. THere will be a full physical exam, eyesight exam, cardiogramme, earing evaluation, an interview and test in a simulator to test your situation awarness. I'm leaving today and i'll be back Friday.

Chicoutimi is, if you take the scale given woth the map, a little more than 300km north of Montreal.
Wish me luck !

Lucky bastart... Let Monkey be with you woot
Wow, you're a lucky man to have the opportunity to get all that for free! It cost me an arm and a leg to start flying.
The best advice I can think of at the minute is just to relax. Try not to tense up or freeze. When you start the simulation/instruction, a lot of information will be there for you via the instruments and your instructor. Don't become overwhelmed, just focus.
Good luck. Be sure to tell us all how it went!

Thanks guys, I just got back from chicoutimi. The tests went pretty well: doctor said I was fit to fly, the interview went well and so did the WOMBAT (http://www.aero.ca/e_W_CS_Scenario.html) test.

Hey Falco, that school has a webpage? I'm really interested in hearing more details about that program. I work here in Brazil at our "FAA" and I know some people here whose job is to research other countries instruction programs/schools that could benefit from that info.
tnx

I love flying, though I still need to get set up here in Colorado. Don't have my license, but so far I've been flying Cessna 172's, though I'd love to fly helos.

There has got to be a catch, doing your PPL, CPL, IR, ATPL theory and MCC here in the UK can be around £50,000 (more or less depends which school you learn with) I can't believe your getting all that for free.
Good luck anyway, I'm doing my PPL at the moment.

The only catch is that they take 40 a year out of about 400. The program is payed by the education ministry. I only have to pay my books, food, etc.

I believe that "middle-class" is a suitable term. Definitely not "rich" per say. ;)

Well we're not exactely poor either but flying planes isn't exactely in our budget (neither is it for any people I know). I actually had the chance to get the license trough a special project at the age of 10, but my parents couldn't afford me getting a license and having to fly a minimum amount of hours every year... :(
