What do you think of my ruck? It is 55 litre, Mil-Tec/Sturm, has an aluminum internal frame, padded waist strap, and made of smelly poly-whatever waterproofing material.

What are your experiences: Is it comfortable and give good support? What level of waterproofing does it offer? I would rather bring this on my kayak trips than dry-bags which are cumbersome to carry over distances. I doubt that anything would beat a dry-bag for waterproofing though, does this come close? For $20 I shouldn’t pass judgment but I will anyways.

Sorry about the stock photos, my camera lens cover doesn't open.

Not what I was hoping for...off to search for tranny **** I go...

As for putting it on a kayak...if you intend to stuff it full of drybags. Because I doubt that thing has any way to keep water out if submerged. Reminds me of this time I was rafting and a lady got all pissed because her brand new camera got ruined, she had put it in a zip-top sandwich bag.

If you want an absolute waterproof bag, there are a few companies that make full waterproof submergible rucks.

I use a ruck sack with dry bags inside , then you get great waterproofing and everything is segregeted incase one leaks or something.

red dragon: Do you know that you can get drybags with a backpack harness? That ruck you bought may be waterproof for rain but that's it, just like EVERY other ruck out there. You had better have a good way to waterproof your kit inside your ruck (again; drybags) unless you feel like building a fire everytime you tip over in your kayak.

seriously i use an old school alice pack, youd be amazed at how much you can fit in one, the only kicker the frame doesnt fit in over head bins well, dont pack it to tight if your traveling by commercial air, or just take the frame off.

Thanks for the info Fintin and winchester_down. I think buying another drybag would be overkill for me at this point, but I will try the drybags in this ruck though.

Are you really a DOD engineer?

Yes, at Booz Allen, I enjoy putting the "F" in FCS.

You are dressed in something that looks like a prison uniform, bending over, while a huge black guy with tattoos holding you in this position... Man, you get me worried, a little bit.:|
