Just trying to get a civil thread going. As per the latest round of talks the US envoy is holding for getting more combat troops for Astan, the freeloader states are either not chipping anything or sending some support troops ( where clearly we need more birds and combat troops).

As Canadian-US-Dutch-Danish casualties stream in, and our public is holding large debates as to why our "allies" are not chipping in; I thought it'd be fair to bring this up.

So, should we keep the freeloaders who veto, politic at every decision and demand to be on the decision process, or should we maybe convert these nations to "partners" and be done with that.

Or should we throw these freeloader nations out and enlarge in a way that includes countries like Albania and Macedonia who are more than willing to chip in and who actually need NATO?.

Don't forget the UK either, but NATO needs some shaking up but not to much or it would probally fa;; apart.

Personally I'd have to say get us (United States) OUT of NATO; how the mighty have fallen, NATO is nothing but a speck or shadow of what it once was. If we want an alliance of this sorts, pull our asses out of NATO and start from scratch.

One of the biggest freeloaders in Afghanistan is the US, when you look at the size of their army and the number of troops they have in Afghanistan.
They focus most of their attention on Iraq.

And more and more I get a feeling that other nations will not deploy more troops to Afghanistan as long as the US doesn't make it a higher priority. Increasingly people start to think that if the US doesn't find it important enough, then why should they care.

And with Gates saying things like "in Iraq we do what we must, in Afghanistan what we can", then why should they? Apparently it isn't that big a threat, if the US doesn't feel the need to make it a higher priority in the GWOT.

Should we kick the US out of NATO?

The United States has more troops deployed in Afghanistan than any other nation and it's troops actually actively participate in combat roles. That should say something.

I guess it doesn't matter that they have more troops than the rest of us combined ?

Perhaps the US should withdraw from NATO, to show you who is really doing the heavy lifting.

This is a stupid thread btw.

NATO has served it's purpose i don't think it'd be missed too much if it was to dissapear.
