I recently built a .22 Suppressor on a Form 1, and I have tried a few different types of Ammo through it to see what works best.

Ammo used,

Remington Subsonic 38gr
Remington 22 Target Standard Velocity 40gr
Aquila Super Extra 40gr

I have a Sig Mosquito and 10/22 with threaded barrels and I hope to have my Savage Mark II FV this Friday, which I will also get threaded.

Through my Mosquito, I have found that Remington Subsonic will cycle it ok, along with the Rem Standard Velocity which does not go super sonic but it somewhat louder than the Subsonic. The Aquila will not cycle the pistol at all, but it is Superp-) quiet.

Through the 10/22, the Rem Subsonic cycles the rifle fine and does not give off that sonic crack, the Standard Velocity does, so it is the difference in barrel length that is creating the sonic crack.
The Aquila Super Extra may cycle the bolt but it stove pipes allot and also does not cycle correctly, but this ammo is quiet.

So I decided to buy the Savage bolt action to shoot the Aquila through, no point in wasting the ammo and it's a great excuse to buy a new firearm.

So, any suggestions from any of the guys out there that are familiar with .22lr sub sonic ammo, and what works and is cheap.
I'm looking for something that will cycle both the Mosquito and 10/22 but is cheaper(if possivble) than the Remington Sub Sonic?

I'll post pics of the can along with the firearms later as I have plenty of time on my hands at the moment( as I just had knee surgery :)).

Question first - are you a hitman?

No opinion on ammo, but get well fast ^^

I doubt that you will get reliable action on semi's with subsonic. I would shoot full power stuff with semi's and get the Savage for super silent pest control.

Building the can was the cheapest way to get myself into the World of NFA. Also, my Chief of Police signed off on my paperwork, so it just opens the door up for when I get my first Class IIIp-)

Not that a .22 is loud, but do you have to be a "hitman" to want a suppressor. I enjoy not having to wear ear protection on the range sometimes.

I think you will find that the standard ammo (which is supersonic in rifles) might be subsonic or transonic in a shorter pistol barrel, while the subsonic ammo may lack the power to cycle a rifles action but standard has a supersonic projectile that is too loud. Can I suggest the Aquila 60 grain subsonic round... the extra bullet mass might give it more power to cycle the action of the rifle. My silenced 22s are all bolt action so this really wasn't an issue.

I have some of the Aquila SSS, I purchased it a few years ago, mainly for sh!ts and giggles. It did cycle the 10/22 most of the time, but I'm a little worried it may tumble once it leave the muzzle, and I'm a little worried it will take out my baffles in the can.

The stuff is expensive now though, as what I'm really looking for is in-expensive .22lr sub sonic ammo.

I also cut about 3"s off of my heavy 10/22 barrel, bringing it from 20"s to just over 16".

I had good results in pistols (Ruger MK2 / Walther PP) and long guns (Ruger 10/22 and Erma M1) with CCI standard.

A friend was using CCI standard velocity ammo out of a Walter G.22 with a suppressor. The rounds came out subsonic and had no issues cycling the action.

Remington subsonic .22lr is ~$3.50/box of 50.

CCI standard velocity .22lr is ~$7.50/box of 100.

I am hoping to get a Browning Buckmark with a Tactical Solutions Trail-Lite barrel and a Gemtech Outback II suppressor soon.
