101st Airborne Division (Assault) and 10th Mountain Division to Begin Modularization
(Source: US Army; issued May 24, 2004)
The 101st Airborne Division (Assault) and the 10th Mountain Division will internally reorganize existing structure to form into the Army’s new modular units of action and units of employment design by late 2004.
Both divisions will gain a brigade, or unit of action, as part of the modular reorganization.
The new brigades will be temporarily stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky., and Fort Drum, N.Y., pending further analysis of stationing requirements and operational needs. Permanent stationing will be fully addressed through the Base Realignment and Closure 2005 process.
2nd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, will not convert to the new modular design prior to deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The Army is currently transforming into a more brigade-focused organization in order to be more responsive to regional combatant commanders needs, better employ Joint capabilities, facilitate force packaging and rapid deployment, expand the rotational base and fight more standardized and self contained units in non-linear, non-contiguous battlespace.
The 3rd Infantry Division based in Fort Stewart, Ga., was the Army’s first unit to convert to a modular design.

CAG 147
... any more details on this from anybody?
