A couple of years ago I remember seeing some low altitude pics of an Iraqi tank graveyard and in them were several Sherman tanks and M36 Jackson tank destroyers. Anyone know what happened to them? What has happened to all the old Iraqi armor?

I think they were captured from the Iranians during the Iran-Iraq war, were was also a captured M50 Super Sherman.

Thanks for the link. I wonder if they are still sitting there or have been cut up for scrap or sold to some collector somewhere?

The only piece I ever saw up around Tikrit was this WW2 Italian tankette:

And, in Taji, there were tons, literally, ha, of older vintage armor. Cant find the rest of the pics I had, because iirc, there were some Brit leftovers too as well as a Chaffee. But here you can see a Greyhound and a Shermie

Not sure what their status is now, since these were taken a couple years ago. If they were treated like the various WW2 armor confiscated in the Balkans, then a good majority of them went to museums, collector societies, etc..

How many people does that tankette hold? Look like you barely fit.

Yes definately some things that should be in a museum, hate to think that they were just cut up for scrap metal. If I am not mistaken, there was a ww1 vintage french tank that was found either in Iraq or that the afgans had that is now stateside being restored.

I saw a couple of T-34s in the back of one of those Iraqi tank yards in 2003.

Those are the yards I think I saw pics of....is all that being cut up for scrap or is it all still sitting there rusting away?
