I met one of the bravest men in the world today, Wallid Shoebat an ex-Palestinian terrorist who converted to Christianity and is now a ardent supporter of Israel. He gave a speech in a lecture hall at UCLA today, and he talked about his story of being raised in a system which indoctrinated youths with hatred for Jews. It was quite shocking to listen to him describe what was taught in an elementary school classroom in his village near Bethlehem. One song went: (When I die)Sharpen my bones and use them as swords, use my flesh for a molotov cocktail.
He was recruited as a teen to become a suicide bomber but whnen he went on his mission he saw children around where he was supposed to blow himself up so he dcecided to dispose of the bomb. He later moved to America where he converted to Christianity after researching about the Jews in the Bible. The most shocking thing was that he was not a fanatical right wing crazy person either, his message was very reasonable, that we must get rid of the cancers of hate spreading terrorist groups and that the Arab world must get rid of its educational system which spreads hatred of Jews to the youth of Arab society. He acknowledged he didn't have any easy answers, but his purpose was just to spread his first hand knowledge of how messed up Palestinian society has become. Needless to say there were some angry Muslim students demonstrating against him calling him a rascist and a traitor. p-)
