I am looking for info, good/bad, on the Sig 556.
I tried unsucessfully searching here for threads.
Any info or direction would be great.

I was really looking forward to it coming out, but when it finally hit the market a lot of people were not thrilled. I have yet to get my hands on one, but the word on the street is not great compared to the 550.

I already did some research on this and other sites.
I wanted the opinions of this members list.
What were some of the cons?
Know someone who just got one. He loves it.
Just another opinion.

I held one down at Knob Creek and AIM Surplus and even though I like the way it feels(and I love SIG and loved the 552 I got to shoot), I hate the fact it's a hybrid SIG/AR 15.

I'll wait for the Bushmaster ACR(Magpul Masada), unless I like the FN SCAR more when I get to see it.

I am not impressed with the 55_ series in general--decent enough guns, but not so much better than anything else to be worth the price. And awful mags.

That said, I've never fired the 556, just the earlier models; but people I know who have weren't impressed. You are probably better off spending that money elsewhere.

It's uncomfortable for me and everything is out of reach of your fingers (ie. mag release). It doesn't feel natural like say an M4

Compared to my PE-90 the SIG 556 is an abomination. I got to play with one and it felt like a badly bubbad rifle.

Well, if mags work 100% I wouldn't call them awful.

I like the 556 for its reliability. never had an issue with any of the ones i sold or fired.

Although, some of the accessories are pretty shi*tty. the flip up sights look like they could break if you just breathed on 'em.

but a guy i used to work with dumped a thousand rounds through his without a proper cleaning and it still went bang. he modified his a bit.
