I tried looking through the forms for info on this, but I failed to find any.

So here it is, All I Know about this poem is that it regards some
?charge/battle? during the Crimean War.

(And Iron Maiden made the song "the Trooper" off of it.)

Here It is:

Half a league half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred:
'Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns!' he said:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

'Forward, the Light Brigade!'
Was there a man dismayed?
Not though the soldier knew
Someone had blundered:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die,
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of Hell
Rode the six hundred.

Flashed all their sabres bare,
Flashed as they turned in air
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging an army, while
All the world wondered:
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right through the line they broke;
Cossack and Russian
Reeled from the sabre-stroke,
Shattered and sundered.
Then they rode back, but not
Not the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
While horse and hero fell,
They that had fought so well
Came through the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of Hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred.

When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wondered.
Honour the charge they made!
Honour the Light Brigade,
Noble six hundred!

It's a fallacy anyway as there were 637 cavalry men, but it did not sound good enough for Tennyson so he made it 600...another hollyweird moment in history for the sake of a publication.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,

Here I am . . .
stuck in the middle again.

Interesting enough, I wrote an essay on this for my History 102 class about a week ago. The Light Brigade was sent into the "Valley of Death" which was occupied by several machine guns. Out of the 647 men/horses like 250 men lived.

Great poem.

I don't know what history class taught that machine guns was used in the Crimean War but you should have done more research on that. First of all the charge took place on Oct 25, 1854. The machine gun was not even invented yet and the first one that was even close to be calling a machine gun was the Gatling gun that was invented by Richard Gatling in 1861. The first real belt fed machine gun was invented by Hiram Maxim in 1881, better known as the Maxim gun.

Now if you can find this movie I highly recommend it. "The Charge of the Light Brigade" that was made in 1936. Although mostly fictional it includes perhaps the most realistic charge that has ever been put on film. During the filming of the charge at least 200 horses died in it and one rider when he fell on his sword. If you want to read about the film go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Charge_of_the_Light_Brigade_%281936_film%29
