Interesting pictures. It's kinda unusual to see combatlights on Eastern weaponry.

Good post.

A little unfair. The Fritz shape of helmet is possibly the most optimal in terms of protection, the woodland camo is good for tropics and temperate zones - hell, dont the US use it ? :) . Point is, that sooner or later everybodies military gear is going to look similar because its all being designed to more or less the same criteria. If the PRC came up with a good idea, we'd be fools not to copy it. Same for them and us.

Is that actually a Blackhawk, or is it a domestically produced knockoff?

That is a Blackhawk. The US sold a couple dozen to China in the 1980s.

I don't know if the Chinese produce a knockoff of the Blackhawk.

I would say china is the only country that stands a chance in conventional warfare against the US.

Now, in China, no one concern about communism. With the capitalism economy developing fastly, Chinese people change minds fastly. I wonder that American emphasize ideology more than Chinese now ;) .

I don't know if the Chinese produce a knockoff of the Blackhawk.

Yes, Us sold some 24 S70(us army uh60)blackhawks to PRC in 1980s and are mainly used in PLA Army. They are purchased because of the high reliability of blackhawks and therefore some were deployed to a satellite base in somewhere west of china and an independent army air service (a regiment unit) to provide logistic service to tibet based in south-west of china. At that time, blackhawks were the only chopers in PLA that could serve high altitude (over 3000m) and successfully flied over 5200m (using a more powerful engine). Sikorsky wished that PRC would buy over 100 blackhawks but after 1989, the trade was baned although PRC tried to buy more. Of course, blackhawks are ideal when the transportation for SF is considered. (compititors include some russia made mi17 and chinese z8,z9 series)

PLA Blackhawks were mostly based in Tibet, some saw brief action during border disputes with India in the late 80s, very few were flying by the late 90s due to lack of spare parts, much like the Iranian F-14s. That has since been resolved in 1997 with parts proccured via the Hong Kong SAR service and their SH-60 Fleet. So I think the Blackhawks are now getting more flying time.

Kinda interesting that a foreign military would have english on their patches along with their own language. http://www.onpoi.net/ah/pics/users/389_1085550738_chinaspec2.jpg His patch says 'China' right? What up wih that? Is it so their enemy knows who they 'really' are?

The PLA currently has 24 S-70C-2 in its inventory, but only a few are barely operational due to shortage of spare parts. I also heard that the PLA(or the PRC government) is suing Sikorsky for breaching of agreement, for the lack of spare parts due to U.S. embargo (as the result of the Tien An Men square "incident" in 1989)

yeah because of dumb yanks the Hong Kong flying services had to ditch the blackhawk.... Yes I said dumb as whats the point we you sent over everything and now you don't want to sell the Hong Kong government spare parts so we have rubbish French Helicopters that lose doors while in flight....
Why do the Yanks have to Punish Hong Kong what has Hong Kong ever done to them.... just cause we got handed over.

Nice one

Great pic's.

God forbid, there is ever a Sino/American war again, the units looking so similar now. Yeah, I know the vast majority of PLA soldiers do not look like woodland BDU/Fritz Helmet copies but still.

Very sharp looking troops they have. I would like to ask some of our Chinese forum mates here where they think China/USA relations are headed to in the next 10 or 20 years?

Thanks. :D

I see nothing special happening, my best guess is when the US has finally got bored with the idea of Arabs as terrorist they would probably complain about China... your human rights records is horrible... etc...
But Economically the US wouldn't do anything in Asia as the US relies so much on the cheap Labour Asia provides to it.

I mean honestly I look at most of my stuff it is made in China, or Vietnam Blackhawk gear, Malaysia for some Nike stuff.... the list goes on.

So when China pushes up its labour prices then I see the US doing something :D

My direct manager is an American, he is pro-libertarian.
His direct manager prefers Bush.
My previous manager is an Chinese-American, who will vote against Bush.

I'd like to be manager of some American in the next 10 or 20 years.

I totally agree, the press is full of crap saying the US hates China etc over this reason or another, but in reality the US loves China.
Example the US backed China into the WTO :)

And heck the Chinese PLA looks like evil clones of the US guys hehehehe

God Bless China and the USA.

Tony Blair and George W Bush are in a meeting in the white house, in comes this politician and he asks Blair what's new?
TB: We are going to kill 10 million people and a milkman!
the politician goes why one milkman?
Tony Blair looks at G W Bush and says "Told you no one is going to ask about the 10 million people."
