I'm looking to get a top-loading, zipperless patrol pack. Options seem to be fairly limited compared to the near-infinite selection of panel loading assault packs.
Primarily there are the four versions of the Becker Patrol Pack from Eagle: original, large, ranger, and molle.
Then there's the Kifaru Zulu, which is a larger pack than I am looking for. .Are there any comparable options that I'm missing? (No interest in BHI, thanks.) Any one have much experience with the Becker's? I searched but didn't turn up much.

The Berghaus Munro would be another alternative - it's a great small pack, lightweight and nearly indestructible.

only read good opinions about it!
I would strongly recommend the Norröna Combat Pack but i'm not sure they make those anymore.
The Bergans Combat looks almost identical, almost like Bergans bought the design from Norröna.

Munro is good kit, as is the Karrimor. I use a patrol pack made by Vanguard -
www.ukkitmonster.com. Good gear, no frills and does what it says on the tin.

Don't be afraid of the Zulu's size, you can cinch that thing down to the size of a MOLLE assault pack, or expand it to a fullsize ruck if you need to. I've worn mine all over Iraq and Afghanistan and I really can't think of any complaints. The slot pockets on the sides are perfect for water bottles, mortar rounds, MREs, camelbaks, VS17 panel...whatever you can think of that you need quick access to. The XTL (if you get one) is the perfect place for a poncho liner, and the inside of the pack will swallow whatever you want it to. I rarely ran mine with pouches on the outside because I could fit everything in it just how I wanted to with the slot pockets and XTL. No extra storage space was needed.

If you don't mind DPM, get a PLCE patrol pack off EBay - not the most comfortable going, but with CBA on padding is irrelevant and its bombproof.

I've had a Berghaus Munro for ten years and it has seen daily use, been all over the world and is still going strong with my other half.
I looked at a Zulu, then I laughed that idea off. I now have an Eagle Industry A-III and it's great....
