Saving .pdf files with Firefox

Up until recently I could download .pdf files with Firefox simply by right-clicking and the "save link as". Now I have to open the pdf first before saving it. What settings do I need to change?

Okay do I have to download files to my desktop? Is there no way of selecting a the folder I want to download each file into?

Go to Firefox settings and under Download "bar" select that it must always ask you where to download.
