Never seen one in the hands of a cop before, interesting. Is this the weapon that everybody speaks so highly of?

I think some southern states use them as well as Maryland? and DC, I don't know much about them but they seem to be held in high regard.
Check out www.hkpro.com for some more pics of cops and G36's.
SWAT has HK MP5, but do they also use G36?

I like the fact that they removed the carrying handle and added the aimpoint with iron b/u sights ..

The G36C is the compact version- I believe the guy in the photo has a G36K (minus the carry handle and built in site).
Here's the rundown:

Yeah, because they are overflowing with cash to spend on a weapon system that would replace ones they currently have AND work just fine.

I don't know too much about these firearms, but from what I understand, the G36K and C both have folding stocks (the G36E doesn't), but the C's stock is shorter. The other difference between the K and C are that the C has a shorter barrel (easy way to identify is the 2 exaust ports in the handguard instead of 4). Also the C's rail/handle is not as tall as the K's, and it lacks the built-in optic.
Like I said, I'm far from being an expert though...
Here is another link for comparing the two models:
