While I was reading my book about the first war in Chechnya I had great respect towards Dudayev due to his successful military career in the Soviet air force and his independence, and I was actually rooting for the Chechen independence fighters throughout the reading. However, I stopped rooting for the Chechens after reading the hostage crises in the hospitals of Russia and Dagestan. I wonder were the hostage crises Dudayev’s ideas, I hope not since he’s one of my favorite heroes in history.
My friend from Azerbaijan said Dudayev was not behind those hostage crises, I'm not sure since he's biased against the Russian government. However the book I'm reading (it's Chinese) said the hostage crises were planned by him.
And i wonder how did he response to those hostage crises afterwards

Dudayev (mhrih) ordered the hospital raids, giving command of the operation to a relative named Salman Raduyev (mhrih), Dudayev (mhrih) was killed in a air strike while talking on his phone a few months later.
Find another hero this guy sucks donkey balls.

They never get behind their actions when they turn against them at the end.
Cowards will be cowards.
here is a story about a real hero of that war

how would he commit any cowardly acts if he has the guts to withstand against the russians
and i wonder are any russians of chechen descent are allowed to join the russian army, will they get discriminated or killed?

So storming hospitals and taking patients hostage isn't cowardly. May I ask where you are from?

i'm chinese,
and i just want to know is dudayev a terrorist since no one claimed that he was responsible, it was basayev and his son-in-law raduyev.
the article you have posted only stated that his relative took over that hostage, not himself / by his orders.

He would be a strange sort of hero...
Why you are even asking this? Of course the man was a terrorist.

...and how old are you, above all? And which (one) book did you read?
You know, i was reading qoqaz site and you know what? Russians lost 500,000 troops there, while chechens lost ... khmm, like 57 warriors?
/sarcasm off

his courage towards chechen independence was heroic, but the terrorist attacks were not
just wanna know if he's behind those. i'm not talking about nordost or beslan since he was dead before those attacks

I find it strange that a Chinaman would find a man like Dudayev a hero; especially a man who works to destroy his own country from with in, I thought the Chinese frowned upon such idea's.
Do you think these Chechyan commanders just make up their own operations without seeking approval from higher headquarters? Dudayev was the leader, so if his officers are taking over hospitals and schools he is responsible and you should now better than that.
After all Russia has done for the Chinese people, how could you possibly find anything good in this Chechyan scum? let alone listen to an Azeri Muslim who tells you not to trust Russian publications about a war they are fighting themselves!
I'm simply amazed.

i told you i thought he was a hero (while reading the book about chechen war) when he declared chechnya's independence, and i was skeptical towards his "heroism" after the hostage crises
sigh, my azeri friend is an anti-russian person, while MP is full of russian military fans / soldiers
anymore neutral sources lol
and this has nothing to do with chinese-russian relation, i was reading a book about the first chechen war and have some questions about it
anyway thanks for the answers, articles, and the biography of that poor russian soldier :(

maybe he was both and meanwhile non of those two
For one side he's a hero, for the other side he's a terrorist
And which media is right or wrong? I don't know... in war the first victim is always the truth

i guess so....russian soldiers might be the terrorists who kill chechen children, but they're heroes in rescuing innocents in hospital
nothing is 100% moral in human nature anyway

Posts like this make me wish it was mandatory to have your country of origin listed.
I just don't understand how you can see things happen like Beslan and that state such things.
