So do any of you know such design? I know there were adapters to shot hand grenades as a rifle grenade... But my question is about purpose built grenades to work that way...

Well that's why you have hand grenades for.

In WWII the U.S. had the M1 adapter for the M1/M7/M8 launcher that could hold a regular fragmentation grenade - probably what you are referring to. That's all I can think of.

Urban legend when I was in the USMC held that if you pried a 40mm round out of it's cartridge and tossed it, spinning, in the air for a while, it could be thrown like a grenade. I don't believe it though.

same here, but it doesn't have contact fuse, and you need adapter, and you can't use it as hgrenade while in adapter. IMHO idea isn't stupid enough so no one would ever try to do that, people do dumber thing just because they can...

I don't believe it though. It would have to be spinning really, really fast...and then you'd have to throw it far enough away that it wouldn't kill you (I think the kill radius on 40mm is 10 meters, or 20 meters in diameter from impact, not to mention the blast radius and shockwave effect). Like those yo-yo's that light up when you spin them, centrifugal force is what sets off the fuse and detonates the grenade.

I think only Bugs Bunny could throw a screwball with that amount of force.

Wonder who would be willing to try to pry it out? Especially during contact.

well, unless you can throw it the distance it needs to be armed, you might as well throw rocks.

from what i understand, they need to travel a certain distance before it arms the explosive inside.

and no, COD4 didn't tell me that.

Russian VOG grenades can be armed by hitting them butt onto hard surface (even sole of a "kirzhach" boot) and then thrown like a impact triggered hand grenade - that's from reading Chechen Campaign memoirs, no personal experience... I have read that VOG grenades were used this way in Urban combat in favor of regular timed fuse grenades.

Similar to how Mortar rounds were armed in the closing scene of "Saving Private Ryan" - for what it's worth p-)

Thanks. Still I'm surprised there so little about this idea... Another question... I saw a video of rifle grenade with telescoping fin assembly... Anyone knows what was it? I lost it though, the video of course...

You propably saw the FN "Bullethtough" rifle grenade.

We here, use the ARGES EM-10 rifle grenade in the mention configuration. But although it looks just like the Hand Grenade, it has a slightly more delay time, around 6 seconds

James,
Australia had this configuration for US made M26 hand grenades in the 1970/80s. Our SLRs ( FN FAL) used a ballistite (?) round to launch the cup. Anyway, just for info....the picture brought back memories.
..and if I see any "old fart" jokes from Digrar....I know where you live (said in 1950s scary movie voice).p-)
