Hey all,
I've got a Softie jacket which has served me well but is looking like its probably on its way out, so am snooping around on t'interweb and looking for a replacement, think I might try a fleece.
I notice online a lot of people sing the praises of the SPEAR fleece, and looking on US Elite Gear, I noticed there is another jacket that looks similar, called the 'USMC' or 'DSCP' Polartec jacket... There are fleecy trousers offered too, and it's all in black.
Does anyone know where to get this fleece in the neutral-brown colour that kit is being produced in evermore, and if you can pick the fleece trousers up in the same colour?
I'm imagining fleece trousers will be overkill for most situ's, but there again I'll probably kick myself in deep bleak midwinter if I didn't get them, so thinking of just splurging out on the whole lot as a set and being done with it...p-)
Cheers

Come on people, I also have a pantomime performance coming up where I have to play the part of a lovelorn coyote, hence the need for the fleecy sand-coloured encapsulation.

I was issued the Peckham fleece. Used to come in an off-OD but now they are handing them out in Coyote. DSCP makes a knockoff of the North Face Denali, I have one of those. I picked it up in the Army PX when I was at my MOS school, there seemed to be quite a few Army folks walking around with it.

Is the USMC currently allowing wear of the Coyote fleece as an external garment the way the Army does (or did?) allow wear of the black SPEAR fleece in Afghanistan and Iraq? Come to think of it, are black fleeces still to be seen in the Army (or other services) or have they basically all been replaced with the foliage green? And is the Army still allowing wear of the black fleece as an external garment?

I proffed a SPEAR in Iraq. It's crap - heavy, bulky and not very windproof.
It's fine for cutting arround camp in - if you want something for your bergan, get a Buffalo.

Things might be different in the field but in garrison you'll likely get your ass chewed for wearing it alone. When strutting around at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland (Army installation) I noticed a fair number of Soldiers wearing the black SPEAR fleece as an external garment. Then again they also went to the chowhall in there PT uniforms so I'm unsure; Perhaps a Soldier can come on here and chime in.

You know the regulations seem to change all the time, but here at Ft. Gordon the black fleece is worn as an outer garment, and yes we hit the DFAC in PT's too. Hope that helps.

been told the buffalo is out of date fashion wise and its softie jackets that are the in thing.
all though my buffalo is nearly 20 years old so I guess I should get a new one
Propper has everything in Coyote now.

Cheers all. Softie is still soldiering on atm due to me being tight! But with summer gone I s'pose I'll have to put my hand in my pocket before much longer :(
As for Buffalos being out of favour, bollox! I have a Buffalo in civvy colours for hiking and the like (also done sterling service on the way home from the pub in middle of winter) and it is the shizzle.

yes but its not really winning in the fashion stakes is it :)
not that it ever did Buffalo systems we make make the worlds most ugly clothing and we don't care :)

Completely agree, snagged a used one from supply. Thing is pretty much useless. Looks cool I guess.

I do not think that much of the coyote brown colour. It has an orange tint which reduces its effectiveness.

Have you ever worn the Coyote brown color in an arid region during combat operations Sandman?
Not only is it effective in blending into the backround, grey, khaki, coyote brown are very hard for the human eye to pick up.

I know. I just found your comment to be ... amusing. p-)
... and NO. I have not worn CB in any arid region during combat operations, whatsoever.
