Can anyone confirm if those rumors are correct?
Di Caprio will play Alexander the Great?
if that s true the movie will then be doomed, I am sorry but for me he is the worst actor

Hmm...different movie? It's with Colin Farrell
There are two rival projects on the go, the first is "Alexander" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0346491/), directed by Oliver Stone and with Colin Farrel in the lead role while the secon is entitled "Alexander the Great" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0327405/), directed by Baz Luhrmann and will star Leonardo DiCappucino in the titular role.

Both Farrell and DiCaprio are pretty-boys but of the two of them, I think that Farrell would do a better job. If "Alexander" is a success, then "Alexander the Great" will probably flop as well.

Trailer for "Alexander."
Generally speaking I would imagine a bidding war breaks out between two studios over one good story/script, the loser of the bidding war still wants a piece of the pie though and then buys up something as close to it as they can find.
Eg - "Dantes Peak" and "Volcano" were released in the same year, as were "Deep Impact" and "Armageddon" as well as "Wyatt Earp" and "Tombstone".
One notable time this didn't happen though was when one studio bought the rights to "The tower" and another one bought "The Glass Inferno". The studios decided to team up and make "The Towering Inferno".
this has been known for ages originally the two alexander films were going to come out at the same time, but baz luhrman decided to delay his until next year.
Leo as a warrior WTF?

Didn't you see how much ass he kicked in...Titanic?
Hmm...directed by Baz..that should be interesting :)
And regarding Leo, yeah, he is thought of as a pretty boy, but he's a great actor IMO. I guess I can kind of picture him as a warrior, but we'll see...

The problem with DiCaprio is that he looks like a child and doesn't have the look not the voice that commands the respect of one of the greatest military leaders in history.

Alexander was supposed to be short and small, but he was also reputed to be brave in battle.
After Troy (and the elimination of the gods from the story :bash: ) I am now building my own pile of offerings and sacrfices that Hollywood may be smote by the Aegis bearing presence from Olympus.
Or I'll just wait to see Alexpander on cable. Whichever.

I vote for the former. While I don't have any virgins handy, I do have half a cheese sandwich which I'd be willing to add to the offerings. Let me know if you need it.

If I remember right, William Shatner played Alexander for quite a while on stage, just before he landed his Kirk gig. I can just see him barking orders with that classic rapid-fire/halting Shatneresque delivery;
"I said I've....got to cut the Gordian knot, do you hear?"
