Well not a tale...
But appropriate for moi...
So I told the old man that he would have to wait for his B-Day gift and that I would give him a combo gift for both Father's Day and the B-Day since this Sunday (our Memorial Day Gun Day) is hlafway in between.
This is what I got the old guy.
I snuck out his Springfield 1903A3 that is iron-sightless and has a custom rail job down at Rock Island Arsenal back in the 60s. My uncle gave it to him on Easter of this year and said "Keep It, It's Yours!"
So, it's not an 1903A3/A4 World War 2 era sniper rifle...just a A4 look alike.
Well, I took it to our local gunsmith (who kicks ass) by the name of Pete Gerret. He re shimmed and taped the rail. Put a variable power Simmons 3x-9x scope on it. To go with it I got him a brand new military style leather sling...the two hole type you see on a Garand. Then a new, larger, hardcase because it has the new site, and lastly, two boxes of 165 grain .30-06.
Does that mean after all these years I am still a good son?
:D

Yeah it does......by the way, he might also like it if you'd move out of the basement for Fathers day too. ;)

Notice that nowhere in his post it says that he's gonna give the rifle back to his father again... p-)

Gave it to him today......
Nearly brought a tear to his eye...
I cannot wait for Sunday....the shoot is on. Just got back from putting up the camo netting and target holders....mowed the entrance and parking area and cleared out around the pistol range.
Good to go...
