Not sure if this is the right place for this thread. I need some opinions on the best gun safe to store about 15 long guns and some valuables.

Thanks!

Several good brands have been mentioned. Look here (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/common/search/search-results1.jsp?QueryText=gun+safe&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=gun+safe&noImage=0). Also, you might consider a locker/vault as opposed to a heavy safe. You have a lot more options in where you can place them, as they are smaller and lighter, but they can be bolted to studs in the wall so miscreants can't abscond with your stuff.

Also, you might have a Bass Pro Shops closer to you than Cabelas:

I bought mine here and it is pretty good.

Whatever you do, spend the extra money and get a good safe. Dont be fooled by the on sale safes you see at your locol stores. I learnd that the hard way.

I think a big part is not just going out a buying a safe. Thought, placement, plus where you live, and other security issues.

Liberty gunsafes go on sale occasionally at Costco. Keep an eye on their flier. And keep in mind that a significant part of the cost is the delivery charge. When comparing prices, make sure you know if it includes delivery (Costco's price does).

Wow! I saw the video of the Liberty safe being broken open. Do all Liberty safes have the same problems? or only the less expensive ones?

Good idea. I've got a big, heavy gun safe that holds 20 rifles/shotguns, but it's so cumbersome that I keep it at my dad's house, rather than my 3rd story apartment. I'm considering getting something smaller & lighter, until I move into a place where I can keep the bigass safe.

Well, usually a safe is not going to be located in the middle of a warehouse, empty and unsupported - it's going to be bolted to the support beams, denying the leverage and ample space given in the video... Cramped space big enough for one adult will also help. That said though, any safe is breakable - note that the process is not repeated on the more expensive safe...

There are also tools that will make all of that muscle and leverage unnecessary - some of these tools are under 100 bucks at the same store that sells those safes...

But if someone knows what they are doing and knows what they want - all bets are off:

Agreed. The majority of times, a gun safe will be effective at acting as a deterrant to unsophisticated amateur burglars or young punks from getting their hands on your collection, but hopefully, that will be all you need.

Good call. BassPro and Cabelas are pretty much interchangeable.
