Despite being outnumbered, not as well trained (not an offense, the Battle of Khalkin Gol proved that the Japanese ground forces are poor in Western standards), how did the Japanese manage to defeat the defending American forces and conquer Philippines? Are the Japanese not pushovers as they seemed to be? or the US army was weak and incompetent during the early stages of WW2?

Since that battle wasn't covered much ...and i don't wanna read an entire wikipedia article... (plus wiki not that that reliable) can some one just give me a brief summary about why the US lost?

thanks!

I'm sure you'll get plenty of useful info with that request.

The Japanese outnumbered the Americans by more than 5 to 1... The Americans were not re-supplied or reinforced, and we were guilty of a certain amount of hubris at first (thinking ourselves far superior to the Japanese) then having a high command that was too shocked to act right away.

That's sort of it in a nutshell... If you'd like to learn more, try reading... :cantbeli:
