I was watching the Colbert Report this evening, and the guest was Jesse Ventura, the wrestler. He was being interviewed about his book, which talks about inciting a revolution in the U.S.

Point is, Colbert makes a gag about Ventura's fake jobs, (the joke being that he was a "pro wrestler") and Ventura's says "You know another fake job I had? Navy SEAL." *Its not exactly what he said, but fake job = navy seal is the main point. It's probably on youtube by now, anyway.)

Here's the kicker. Ventura is wearing the insignia of his "fake job" (the SEAL Eagle and Trident" on his jacket.

Shameful.

I think he was trying to say that wrestling wasn't fake.

But of course wrestling is.

Jesse Ventura joined the Navy after high school and served for six years — four on active duty, two in the Reserves — and is a Vietnam veteran. While on active duty, he was a member of Underwater Demolition (SEAL) Team 12. He returned to Minnesota in 1973. Ventura's role as the Governor of Minnesota is the latest aspect of a lifetime spent serving the public in such various ways. He was the mayor of Brooklyn Park, a Navy SEAL, professional wrestler, actor and broadcaster.

Ventura is a badass extradinare. Aside from his very successful position as governor (he recieved the highest approval rating if i recall), he also had roles in Predator and Demolition man. I want him for president of the world.

I didn't see the interview, nor do I know anything about Ventura's military service, but I do know that most wrestlers get upset when wrestling is called "fake" - those guys are very hard workers, work with severe injuries and are quite atheletic...He might have been implying this with sarcasm.

It was Jesse's retort to Colbert's "Fake" statement implying that he did not think that being Governer in no way was fake, just as his other job as a Navy Seal was not fake. He relied upon the "common" notion that everyone knows that the job of a Navy Seal is as real as it gets.

I have been fortunate to do work for these fine and rare men, and I can tell you they are a breed apart. Their humor is different as well (and funny as hell). In a way they remind me of the Foreign Legion in that once you are in you are always "in". At SWG2 Virginia Beach, a lot of the retired members come in to keep fit and such and they joke just like Jesse, it's the experiences they have been through that creates their outlook on life. And IMHO, they think right.

AS for the creator of this thread I think you owe Jesse an apology here. If not... as he said "You got to sleep sometime", and he does not stay surfing in Mexico all the time. He visits forum contributers just like Jay and silent Bob. :bash:

I didn;t seem like it was Sarcasm to me. I mean, the guy is on the show, promoting his book about revolution in America. Colbert is obviously going for gags, but usually the people he interviews are a little more serious.

If he was truly being sarcastic, then fine. I'm sorry. I'm not above admitting it when I'm wrong.

I think he should be hanged and then burned and then kiss my feet for insulting the NAVY SEALS of which I once saw a 10 minute TV programme about.

HE SHOULD APOLOGIZE TO ME PERSONALLY.

I don't know who he is, what he did, or what this show is about, but that's my opinion on that.

Alpha_Mustang, you did a great job. How can this lame duck wear a SEAL Eagle and Trident on his jacket ?

And btw: ARE YOU WEARING MULTICAM AND ONE OF THESE SPECIAL FORRRCCCESS HAT ? COOL GUY.

I can dig it. Thanks for "Manning" up about it, can't say that about a lot of people a lot of the time.

I can understand the kneejerk re-action. SEAL's have become legendary in our society and many (too many) impersonate them, to the point where the group defends their rep with strong measures.
(IE: AuthentiSEAL (http://www.authentiseal.org/) that tracks Phony SEAL sightings. Retired SEAL Steve Robinson, who wrote the book on Phonies (literally - it is titled "No Guts, No Glory (http://www.moosecreekforge.com/special.html)" and details many of the close to 10,000 fake SEALs that the group has outed) confirmed my initial suspicion. The list is definitive and includes every man who has graduated from BUD/s since the beginning of time - back when they were not called SEALs but Naval Combat Demolition Units and Underwater Demolition Teams.)

Retirees from the Frog/Demo/ Seal groups are also held to certain standards, last time I was at SPECWAR2, I asked the guys what they thougt about Richard '****' Marcinko. Suffice to say it was not completely complimentary.

I for one wont agree with this. Everytime a celebrity is interviewed in shows such as these, they always make jokes and stuff. theyre just being sarcastic. Jesse ventura would never be ashamed to show his background as Navy SEAL.
