Lasers beams are now in use on rifles for instant targeting. So what is the best color laser for targeting and shooting ?

Better get it quick before the Federal Government bans them. They are not real happy with the number of planes being targeted at the moment.

As for colour, everyone perceives colour differently, so the one you can pick out the easiest is the one that is best for you.

Green is the most easy to see with the human eye.

Listened to a report today, the ones that are probably going to be banned are the green ones because they are typically 4-10 times stronger than the red ones.

Green will be seen further

This is a little off topic, but I used a PEQ-15 for the first time last week with the visible laser as well as IR. My question is; on the selector knob there is a blue screw that blocks 2 more selections I think they're DL and AL. I've heard that you need to get your CO's authorization to remove it. Anyone know anything about it?

The colour of the laser is not as important as the power of the laser and spread of the beam. A dot the size of a tennis ball at 20m is useless.

Of course that figures also in, but you see the green much better then the standard red (even at same output strength).

I prefer RED, besides i think its harder for the enemy to see it as its not quite as bright.

I tried using red, but I can't see it after 10, 20 meters in the dark.

The blue lock is only used in the US and for training, as soon as you deploy you pop it off, flip it over, and can use the full power settings. The same goes for any of the various models of laser/light illuminaters.

I don't want to see a ban as I love the laser range finder, best invention for long range shooting since the scope! BUT not long ago I was painted by a green laser while flying at 1500 feet and I would say the laser was over 1 Km away! It came in through the cockpit window and lit up the overhead panel, very scary and lucky it did not get into our eyes! This is becoming a big problem, 2 guys in Dubai, someone in Sydney and the US have all been done for this recently, they should be locked up for life!

The green laser is a powerful laser I agree, and does present a danger to pilots. I'm sorry to say that we have irresponsible people out there who want to test the limits of this laser.

Is there any chance of eye damage from those lasers?

Sure, all lasers have a potential to damage vision. Especially when viewed through magnifying optics or extended times.
